Also, never seen it as de15. I always saw it as db15. It appears both are valid due to misuse! DE-15 is the correct term.

Normally my big pet peeve is people referring to this as DB9 when it's actually a DE9... but in the context of the meme, I think it's important not to impose any identities on the connector.

I was thinking of a way to make this joke but this is probably the optimal version so I'm gonna go philosophical instead.
This is a great example of how ingrained gendered metaphors are into our society and is, itself, a meta metaphor. While such categories can be an extremely useful tool to communicate the complex relationships between people and things, we have to remember their limitations. Assigning moral implications to specific combinations or transformations actually limits the usefulness of bothering to assign those categories to begin with. Connectors are (almost) as diverse as human sexuality, and all of them, and all combinations of them, are needed to create the beatiful and varied world we connect with each other in.

For me_irl this is about being old and obsolete.

Too bad I needed null modem AND m-m gender changer because the usb serial adapter was male, equipment was female, and the null modem was f-f. Hacked something together in each possible config but couldnt get much more than random bytes during the initial hotplug. I the made sure baud etc matched. Might try later with a different serial adapter
Also the dang usb port needs a custom driver
I gave up :•(
