These people are disgusting. Good job, Texas. You have some of the most despicable people elected in this country.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has threatened a children’s hospital with “consequences” after a doctor posted a viral TikTok telling patients they’re not legally obligated to tell a hospital their citizenship status.

[-] DogPeePoo@lemm.ee 75 points 4 months ago

Greg Abbott is a little piss baby.

[-] abbiistabbii 54 points 4 months ago

You know, if you're gonna shut down hospitals because a doctor disagreed with you, you might, miiiight just be a fascist.

[-] Freefall@lemmy.world 25 points 4 months ago

They are. We know it. They know it. They embrace it. We still act like it is an insult or we are exposing some secret.......ffs

This has to be the depths of depravity, to smugly threaten critical funding for a children’s hospital because some individual doctors (correctly) point out that the state’s immigration question is non binding.

He’d rather hurt everyone’s kids if it means he can’t hurt the brown kids more. Maybe that tree should have fallen a little closer to his head and we’d all be spared this reality

[-] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 51 points 4 months ago

What a great way to ensure your state has a critical shortage of doctors. Already happening for women health care departments.

[-] Ele7en7@lemmy.world 41 points 4 months ago

Can't wait to see how the next four years and beyond work out. I'm sure it'll be great.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 39 points 4 months ago

Think of the children!

Not enough of them are dying!

[-] magnetosphere@fedia.io 35 points 4 months ago

“Hey Texas Children’s Hospital & Baylor College of Medicine this doctor is putting your Medicaid & Medicare funding at risk,” Abbott wrote on X, sharing a link to an Express-News article that reports on Pastor’s video.

No, Abbot. YOU and the Cheeto-elect are putting their funding at risk. You are absolute garbage human beings.

[-] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 32 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Just like Jesus would have done when it comes to helping children.

Fucking shitty Republican Christians.

[-] Tylerdurdon@lemmy.world 31 points 4 months ago

Abbott is garbage on wheels and I sure hope he tries to mess with Children's. It would be some of the worst publicity possible.

[-] TheRealKuni@lemmy.world 18 points 4 months ago

some of the worst publicity possible.

Won’t matter. He’s not gonna get primaried except by someone more extreme, and he’s not going to lose to a Dem, so he’s untouchable.

“You do not have to answer the citizenship question if you don’t want to. Your answer will not affect your care — you will not be turned away,” the flyer states. “You have a right to life-saving care, regardless of citizenship or immigration status.”

Freedom of Speech is only for speech the government likes.

Genuinely evil and i don't see how they don't see how evil they are.

[-] Manifish_Destiny@lemmy.world 18 points 4 months ago

Someone should put this fucker on a steep hill with a cliff at the bottom

[-] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 10 points 4 months ago

That sounds survivable, though, I imagine the hospital bills won't be.

[-] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 months ago

We can add spikes, or maybe hit him with an ATGM on the way down

So happy I got out of that state. I couldn't stand the idea of my tax dollars funding this fuckhead's administration.

The tree should have finished the job

[-] corvett@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

This is about Medicaid government aid paying for non-citizen care

If I were receiving medical care in Canada as a non-citizen, would their government health care pay for it, or would I be given a bill?

[-] JonsJava@lemmy.world 18 points 4 months ago

Bad example.

They aren't asking them for the sake of Medicaid.

This is any person, even single-payer patients (ones paying for themselves), because a state law tying a facility receiving federal funding to a requirement to ask nationality.

Please, read the article next time.

I’m surprised you’re not censoring this since you’re a corporate shill.

[-] JonsJava@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Ah, so because I don't mind steam, I'm a shill?

You got nothing better to do than follow me around? If not, have fun.

[-] intresteph@discuss.online 1 points 3 months ago

Nope. Unrelated. Commentary on your abusive moderation.

[-] JonsJava@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Do mean when we removed things that advocated violence? Do you honestly think it's related to the persons job/wealth? We do that for any instances of people advocating violence that we see or are reported. All those were reported, numerous times.

In BC it depends on your status. Asylum seekers can apply after a waiting period. Tourists should get a private insurance plan, or you'll have to pay for it at whatever the BC Medical rates are, which should be pretty reasonable compared to US rates. Permanent Residents would probably already be covered.
