just gonna say... barn cats are the best cats.

grandma had a barn cat that lived in her pipe organ's pipes. Pinky would pop out and watch people, and usually come down to say 'hi', at least to me, but she was quite old and frequently grumpy with "others",

(... yes. you read that right. My grandma teaches organ and piano, and until a while ago, she had a 'rescued' pipe organ in her garage. It's since been donated and restored to a proper home.)(Don't judge Grandpa kept a still in the back of his barn. I remember after he passed we were helping clear out his barn, 'what's this?!' 'Oh. that's grandpa's still.'.... was a rather awkward conversation.)

So, many vets will provide a free check up for rescues. Possibly including vaccines and things.

Whoever this was is a right asshole. Thanks for redeeming humanity for the rest of us.

and that could have potentially been what caused to crash and burn or burn and crash. choices choices.

anyhow... I'm thinking they want to be home right now, but maybe not riding on a boeing.

can't. they're maiden-less.

"I dunno. I suck at this. what do you think?"

don't do that at the cheap joints.... but otherwise it usually sets up a good discussion.

protip, if you're wanting a men's style... go to a barber. usually less expensive, and usually much better at men's style. (Also, most barbers don't care if your a man or woman or non binary. they still won't charge you extra the same way a stylist will charge some one passing as a woman women's rates for the same thing. it's pretty absurd.)

Halloween is the best holiday.

No. no. really.

name another Halloween where it's socially acceptable to go out in public dressed in your favorite costume, or just your PJ's, even.

[-] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

well, i suppose that's a decent thing to do.

i mean, it saves somebody I probably don't hate from having to change his diapers. like the generic staffers around him.

[-] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

yeah. nobody ever gets anything done after lunch on fridays.

It's like a rule or something.

And those idiot managers that schedule meetings on fridays get dumped in the river. that's also a rule.

[-] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

that's not why.

The bibles are donated in a feeble attempt to convert the "wicked". In any case, mostly the free-bible programs are a grift scamming the well-meaning people who donate funds for it. The bibles aren't quite that expensive, and the people soliciting the donations are taking a cut. The grift offers 'feel good' vibes with little effort to the donors.

same as the people selling tracts for people to hand out, really. The tracts are useless. nobody ever saw a tract and was like "WOW I'm a heathen! I should repent!" (at most, people get a chuckle before littering on the street corner.) but the people selling the tract make a lot of money.

fun fact: the typical gideon bible isn't a complete bible. Cuts out a lot of the "And god smote that asshole for being an asshole," and "God smokte that asshole because he smote his brother, and the guy refused to get his brother's wife prego"; also the child rape. the genocide. the collecting foreskins. Oh, and the other genocide. The incest. And that other-other genocide. and. uh. well. basically all the stuff that's likely to get people to go "huh. that's pretty fucked up."

Saw this going to a friend’s house- they bagged the fire hydrants….one thought was snow; but this is the first year apparently. And snow has been a mild issue this year compared to most.

Even has the donuts on there for, you know, dealing with the munchies.

Double, double Toil and Trouble; Fire burn and Cauldron boil.
and the finished soup:

Okay, so I was making chicken soup from stock I had made using a (lightly,) browned carcus and neck. just before dumping the the dumplings into it, the stock's color was a nice light brown. I added about 1/4 cup of lemon juice, turned my back for 30 seconds after a stir and it turned it an almost milky-off white. Eventually it deepened to this:

It's delicious, and tastes as expected, I'm just curious as to what happened in the broth's chemistry?

Seasoned with salt (duh), a sprig of thyme, some ginger and garlic, (just a hint of ginger,) black pepper, lemon zest (which was added with the torn chicken,) and white wine deglazed the pot from browning the dark meat.

The stock was from garlic, onion, celery, carrot and maybe ginger scraps cooked with the chicken carcass..
