It looks like a family holiday card except that the woman and children posing with Republican Derrick Anderson are not his wife or his offspring

Anderson, who running in a close race for Virginia’s seventh congressional district, was seen in another image seated around the dining table with the same woman and three girls.

The images came to light in an article by The New York Times, headlined “G.O.P. Candidates, Looking to Soften Their Image, Turn to Their Wives,” which reported how “male Republicans struggling to appeal to female voters concerned about their records on reproductive rights are unleashing their spouses to make the pitch on their behalf.”

However Anderson, who is childless, engaged to be married and lives alone with his dog, sought to borrow the wife and children from a longtime friend in an apparent effort to appear as a family man.

Yeah seems legit, "party of family values" - let's rent some women for your photoshoot. I wonder if they consulted Mike Pence's binders to find them.

[-] ArtieShaw@fedia.io 43 points 3 months ago

Wasn't Mitt the dude with the lady binders?

[-] Hegar@fedia.io 25 points 3 months ago

Yep. Pence is the one with lady blinders, like a horse, to protect him from seeing things that might scare and confuse him.

[-] Kalkaline@leminal.space 14 points 3 months ago

Pence isn't allowed to be around women that are not his wife in a private setting.

[-] misterdoctor@lemmy.world 10 points 3 months ago

It always bugged me that we never talked about the fact that Pence wouldn’t be alone with non-wife women because apparently every single woman, given time alone with Mike Pence would be unequivocally down to clown. The only question was whether Pence would allow the alone time to happen.

This weirdo calls his wife "mother".

[-] Trigger2_2000@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 months ago

God that's sick 🤢

[-] lettruthout@lemmy.world 48 points 3 months ago

It's just another lying weirdo. How does the GOP find so many of them?

[-] HowManyNimons@lemmy.world 22 points 3 months ago

They self select.

Weird that this isn't there yet.

Somebody else already did while I was at Costco

[-] MajorHavoc@programming.dev 27 points 3 months ago

This gives off a strong "I have black friends." vibe.

[-] cultsuperstar@lemmy.world 24 points 3 months ago

So all of the GOP - male and female - are weird. Got it.

[-] MNByChoice@midwest.social 20 points 3 months ago

engaged to be married

Gonna be weird when the 'spouse' changes in the photos.

Any bets on why the fiancé was not in photo?

[-] 2ugly2live@lemmy.world 15 points 3 months ago

That's so fucking weird. And bold. Like, even if it wasn't picked up, wouldn't people in his community recognize the family? Not one person that would furrow their brow and ask who's that man with "(Insert Mom's name) and the girls?"

"hello fellow kids" moment

Childless dogman…

Are you sure this is not satirical? "The Daily Beast" sounds like something a satirical news site would call themselves.

[-] FundMECFSResearch 27 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Daily beast is a left wing american news source that can sometimes be somewhat sensationalist but is a genuine source.

I would not rely on them for high quality reporting, but they tend to be okay at getting the facts right.

[-] flamingo_pinyata@sopuli.xyz 11 points 3 months ago

Thanks. Whenever I see such an absurd news about a politician from whichever country or political party, I need some kind of fact check

[-] Serinus@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago

It's one of the very few times I'd agree if someone labeled it left. You know, unlike CNN or NBC or any network station.

[-] FundMECFSResearch 8 points 3 months ago

Or Reuters/AP being “center left” 🤡

[-] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 16 points 3 months ago

Real life surpassed satire years ago.

[-] radix@lemmy.world 14 points 3 months ago

It's real:

Derrick Anderson, who is running for an open seat in Virginia’s Seventh District, in a photo with the wife and children of a longtime friend.

It's a center left Web 2.0 / Death of Traditional Journalism outlet, but still credible on a purely factual basis i.e. basic reported facts are probably accurate.

It's brand of leftism would best be described as progressive Democrat, and their analysis and editorial choices should be understood as primarily coming from those sensibilities and culture affectations e.g. educated, middle class, and a socially/culturally left brand of neoliberalism.
