‘I love the poorly educated!" - Trump

Same for the Dems too. They love voters who blindly follow them.

[-] aberrate_junior_beatnik@lemmy.world 53 points 2 months ago

Goes for celebs and corporations, too.

You're wrong! Beloved character actor Margot Martindale DOES love me and so does ~~United Fruit~~ Chiquita!

[-] return2ozma@lemmy.world 19 points 2 months ago

"But Starbucks sent me a free drink for my birthday!" /s

[-] dogsoahC@lemm.ee 15 points 2 months ago

All the more reason not to love them. They shouldn't even know your birthday.

[-] Empricorn@feddit.nl 46 points 2 months ago

Remember those times fans used violence in support of the most popular "left" politicians:

  • Bernie Sanders
  • Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
  • Barack Obama
  • etc...

Of course you don't, because they didn't happen. Far-right extremists are a cancer that needs to be cut out.

[-] TheRealCharlesEames@lemm.ee 38 points 2 months ago

You can’t tell me that Bernie doesn’t love me.

[-] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 16 points 2 months ago

Sorry, he doesn’t. He doesn’t even know you.

Parasocial relationships are unhealthy, even if they are with good people.

[-] mlg@lemmy.world 19 points 2 months ago

Actually he's the only senate member who happens to be an independent who probably does care lol.

Not that it makes a functional difference, but at least we got 1 / (100 + 435 + presidential cabinet + presidential appointees + SCOTUS + federal court judges)

[-] Donkter@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

I love you even though I don't know and never met you.

[-] nomous@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

I love you and I'll prove it.

[-] kofe@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

They're not inherently unhealthy lol. They can be great. Find you some therapists to follow on YouTube or something. The ones I've found inspired me to go back to school and become one myself:)

[-] _____@lemm.ee 19 points 2 months ago

I like these memes but I feel as though they reach those that already know and not the echo chamber that desperately needs it

[-] AllNewTypeFace@leminal.space 15 points 2 months ago

Some politicians are people who went into politics wanting to help others and make a positive difference. Others are predators. Sometimes you get to vote between one of each category.

[-] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

And much more often, you get to choose between a sometimes helpful opportunist and a predator. The choice is still clear, but nowhere near as pleasant.

[-] HeyJoe@lemmy.world 12 points 2 months ago

Oh no, we're dragging Doug into this now.

[-] bartlebee@infosec.pub 4 points 2 months ago

Only Quailman can save us.

[-] StarshotJohn@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Someone call Skeeter

[-] lugal@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Because he really loves you and cares about you. As I do. Here is my patreon linke: https://patreon.com/dough

[-] SeattleRain@lemmy.world 10 points 2 months ago

Harris supporters I'm looking at you.

[-] IntheTreetop@lemm.ee 18 points 2 months ago

Man, after the last decade, just let us have this for a little while.

[-] zephorah@lemm.ee 5 points 2 months ago

Yea well, less predatory and/or apathetic feels pretty ok right now.

And I say the latter as a gen X.

[-] lightscription@lemmy.world 10 points 2 months ago

A good one could. "Agape" or love for your people, who you represent or fight for. Imagine if MLK had an office. Some people do care. I think Sanders does, who has a high enough profile for people to know about him. Sawant also.

[-] StarshotJohn@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago

Thanks Doug!

[-] kameecoding@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

i think the issue is that the media dominating US is basically like sports fans, but there are only 2 teams (that actually matter) so it always comes down to an US vs Them attitude, for me here in Europe there is the party that's closest to my views and then there is the party that's close enough and actually have a chance to do things, so I vote for them and if they stop doing the things I want them to do, I will vote some other party.

[-] Glitterbomb@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

I once went to a superbowl party where the host filled a few coolers with beers and taped a presidential candidates name on top of each cooler. People voted by grabbing a beer from their guys cooler.

American politics never made as much sense to me as it did in that moment.

[-] PriorityMotif@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

All of my local candidates always run independent in my small town because it is so divided. There's really not much will for parties to control the town.

[-] Aceticon@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

The mixed effects of Celebrity and Tribalism are incredible.

I like to think I'm very logical, been in contact with the Acting World in the UK (plus some of my friends had seen the TV World from the inside) which really tore down a lot of the impact I would get from other people being Famous: basically what we on the outside see about Famous people is a highly managed and complete total bollocks image (possibly worse so in Politics) and even barelly know fringe actors are under social/professional pressure to manage their public impression and say certain things but not others.

Further, I'm in my 50s, lived in several countries, seen quite a bit more than the average person, am at the top of my profession and am hardly lacking in self-confidence or self-belief.

And yet, some time ago when I joined a small political party where I live now - Portugal - (were "small political party", unlike in the US, means they have members of Parliament and the leaders are frequently interviewed on TV) and went to a "Welcome to the Party" meeting for members in the district that contains the capital city of the country, I could feel the "Uh, ahh, important person" feeling and the umconfortable self-awareness in the presence of such people.

For! Fuck's! Sake!

I think this crap has nothing to do with Logic (as logically being well-known has very little to do with wisdom or most other qualities except perhaps presentation, and leadership of a Party is seldom the resultof the qualities traditionally deemed to be admirable and which make a Great Man or Great Woman) and comes from some deep down pack instinct or whatever such crap.

[-] chemicalprophet@lemm.ee 4 points 2 months ago

Definitely weird and just as common with the blue maga.

[-] Blackmist@feddit.uk 9 points 2 months ago

Is it though?

I feel there isn't really a blue equivalent of the nutcases who cover their homes and vehicles from top to bottom in Trump propaganda.

[-] ZombiFrancis@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 months ago

It's kind of cheating to watch the DNC because that's where and when they come out of the woodwork, but they're on full display right now to get reference.

But yes, the very public merchandising is definitely the Trump contribution that doesn't have as strong an equivalent with the Democratic Party.

But then again the GOP is still full of mask-on Trump supporters without the nutcase pageantry.

[-] wolfshadowheart@slrpnk.net 6 points 2 months ago

I feel like there is a significant difference between going to the DNC and going to the RNC.

For one, the DNC attendees didn't bring jizz cups with them.

[-] RedditSucks88@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Remember when Obama won? People thought all of their problems were going to disappear overnight lol. Acting like they just won the lotto.

[-] return2ozma@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Hope and change! And then...

[-] ByteOnBikes@slrpnk.net 4 points 2 months ago

And then he pushed for Universal Healthcare? We went into a major depression and his work pushed us out of it? Repealed "Don't Ask Don't Tell"? You know how shit it was to travel to other countries under Bush thanks to the Iraq War? Do you know that minorities for decades saw the presidency as a "Old White Dude club" since forever?

People acting like they fucked around for their presidency.

[-] return2ozma@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Romneycare?

[-] Glytch@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

And then he pushed for Universal Healthcare?

Which he failed to deliver despite Democrats having a filibuster-proof majority. Instead they appeased Republicans by implementing a Republican healthcare plan from the 90's. They couldn't even codify Roe V. Wade into law despite that being a campaign issue for Obama. For some reason the timing wasn't right.

You know how shit it was to travel to other countries under Bush thanks to the Iraq War?

You mean that war Obama didn't end because it was "too complicated" and instead killed hundreds of people (including children) with flying robots? That Iraq war?

We're talking about a guy who was given the Nobel Peace prize at the start of his presidency (for not being Bush) and then accelerated the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

[-] TheReturnOfPEB@reddthat.com 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Which election: the one that was 16 years ago or the one that was 12 years ago ?

And didn't win the lotto but I also am not in medical debt bankruptcy because of Obama and later McCain.
