your mother didnt tell you anything to keep you sane and safe. she didnt know better, just like any parent in such a situation is a complete idiot.

adults say they know better but they usually only know better than 2yo-you. otherwise adults know shit.

regarding your father, you will have to listen to weezers "forgive your foolish father" for the rest of your life sobbingly arguing with the singer, or you can talk to him and tell him what you think. it's ok, they're not going to hate you. they never have. quite the contrary actually, but they still, just like you never really picked up on how to properly parent. show your kids love, as you would have wished your parents had done
