If I'm not mistaken, they're probably referring to the fact that in French, "femme" is pronounced like "fum", not "fem"
For once, the English way of pronouncing it makes more sense

As a French woman, femme in French, maybe femme in the sense of femme, definitely fem though, it makes conversations akward 😄
I do prononce it the accepted way in English, don't worry.
I don't speak French at all but "en fem" feels weird to say so I use a shitty attempt at the French pronunciation of "en femme" lol
If you're curious femme in French is kinda pronounced like fam from family. Maybe a slightly longer a but long and short vowels in French are kinda volatile and heavily subject to local accents so meh
