One of the absolute best uses for LLMs is to generate quick summaries for massive data. It is pretty much the only use case where, if the model doesn't overflow and become incoherent immediately [1], it is extremely useful.

But nooooo, this is luddite.ml saying anything good about AI gets you burnt at the stake

Some of y'all would've lit the fire under Jan Hus if you lived in the 15th century

[1] This is more of a concern for local models with smaller parameter counts and running quantized. For premier models it's not really much of a concern.

To be fair, LLM technology is really making other fields obsolete. Nobody is going to bother making yet another shitty CNN, GRU, LSTM or something when we have transformer architecture, and LLMs that do not work with text (like large vision models) are looking like the future

The anti natalist dude who attacked a fertilization center was a lemmy radical.

Want a source? Look at the SS Headquarters (also known as lemmy.world)

Nah Lemmy in particular is a worse dump than Miyazaki's poison swamps. The level of zeal on lemmy is staggering (I mean, it's already resulted in one terrorist attack)

I feel like this is because it's much smaller than alternatives. It starts to feel like you're circlejerking the same dicks every day.

A battery

A highly complex system with support systems to prevent it from literally blowing up (mmmmm tasty lithium)

A battery management system

A seriously complex piece of model specific code that is usually proprietary and has hardware level bricking fuses (so fuck you if it has a fault)

And also, all the other management shit like regen braking and what have you.

You're doing a "reduction". If you reduce literally anything to such high abstraction it seems simple. Yes, quantum physics is also " just " an observation of a continuous system, nothing to it mate

ICE cars can be completely reassembled with a couple of wrenches. The most proprietary thing in the whole system is the ECU, and you can swap that and whatever if you wish to do so.

It's not adapting to change, it is fighting change

I can't really provide any further insight without finding the damn paper again (academia is cooked) but Inference is famously low-cost, this is basically "average user damage to the environment" comparison, so for example if a user chats with ChatGPT they gobble less water comparatively than downloading 4K porn (at least according to this particular paper)

As with any science, statistics are varied and to actually analyze this with rigor we'd need to sit down and really go down deep and hard on the data. Which is more than I intended when I made a passing comment lol

Industrial emulation is easy to do, a sandboxed and controlled VM won't die from hardware faults like a hunk of shit from 1993

Also there are NEW computers made specifically for this particular purpose, they even have ISA buses and shit

I don't understand why lemmy is living in la la land, the moment you go against the narrative you're brigaded to shit

Yes, y'all do be in fact wrong

Bonus: IBM sells emulation packages for migration to new architectures. IBM probably knows better than the lot of us.

The most recent Qwen model supposedly works really well for cases like that, but this one I haven't tested for myself and I'm going based on what some dude on reddit tested

and that you, yourself, can stand as a sole beacon against the otherwise regularly increasing evidence and studies that both indicate toward and also prove your claims to be full of shit?

Hallucination rates and model quality has been going up steadily, same with multishot prompts and RAG reducing hallucination rates. These are proven scientific facts, what the fuck are you on about? Open huggingface RIGHT NOW, go to the papers section, FUCKING READ.

I've spent 6+ years of my life in compsci academia to come here and be lectured by McDonald in his fucking basement, what has my life become

if nothing else it should be easier with rust because:

a) That fucking syntax is probably more legible to an AI than a human (sue me, Rust absolutists)

b) The language has more safety barriers; making use of AI safer by association

Funny how your ideology is to dickride capital, sow disruption in effective leftist systems, and you somehow twist yourself in enough of an ideological pretzel that you somehow also dickride ACAB

Average .world "ideology shopping" individual

Also, your name is familiar. Aren't you the rabid Kamala supporter? If so, that is insanely ironic
