Just so people are aware, Starbucks was caught buying from farms in Brazil multiple times that used slave labor. In Guatemala, along with Nestle, were caught buying from farm(s?) that used child labor.

EDIT: On top of this the company partnered with Conservation International to certify the farms met the company’s standards. The incident in Brazil saw CI trying to coverup the certification of that farm. Also CI is involved with arms dealing.

EDIT 2: Their retail products have the claim “100% Ethically Sourced”. That is a lie.

EDIT: I got the slogan wrong. It is “Committed to 100% Ethical Coffee Sourcing”.

Want a worse number? Back in 2019, the price of commodity was at less than a $1. Starbucks, at the time made up 3% of the world’s production. They decided to give $20m to their farmers. Did it help? Well based on available financial data at the time, $20m was approximately single afternoon’s profit for the company. A SINGLE FUCKING AFTERNOON! https://sprudge.com/starbucks-would-prefer-you-dont-think-too-hard-about-that-20m-relief-fund-151839.html

How do you feel about your species being used as the nomenclature for “test subject”?

He probably thinks he deserves it and never actually said he wanted any.

The way The Doctor is able to change appearance so quickly, jump through glass panes and that hallway wall running, scream Matrix to me.

Biggest take away: Wang was cast in Picard season 3, promoted to admiral, and over time cut out before production.

Spoilers for “Subspace Rhapsody” (Strange New Worlds season 2 episode 9)

This question is 100% hypothetical. Would the episode have the same plot if Spock at completed kolinahr at this point in his life?

Hi there. I just wanted to discuss something positive and uplifting. As we surely all know, Star Trek has a very big fandom that is super inclusive and positive (for the most part). Had a thought that for many fans, their passion is life-long. Maybe it would be nice to share a positive memory (maybe a few) you associate with Trek; whatever you are comfortable sharing. I kick it off (my list is chronological).

  1. Getting to go on The Klingon Encounter at Star Trek: The Experience in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was a family trip, I was seven (I recently found out I was off by year) in 1998. My grandfather was working at the time for a Chinese apparel brand. He took us to an industry convention he was attending for work. So my mom took me to the Hilton. There was walls of Borg statues, actors dressed as Klingons walking the casino. Only got to go on The Klingon Encounter, a Star Tours style ride. The premise is an entertainment experience with live actors which you are mysteriously transported to the future where you switch places with Picard. Klingons are behind it. They believe your group has an ancestor among you. You head to a transporter to escape to a shuttlecraft, and flee the Klingons. The chase eventually leads you over The Las Vegas Strip. The ride also included pre-recorded video from TNG cast as part of the story.

  2. Watching ENT when it first broadcast. I was ten years old. As an aside, I’ve always lived with my maternal grandparents. Anyways, my grandfather was excited for it. He let me stay up late on Wednesdays to watch with him. It was the first series (pretty much the only from start to end) I watched first broadcast. Watched every episode with him.

  3. Finally going to my first convention, STLV (formerly Star Trek Las Vegas) this year. Such an incredible four days that I can never forget. Getting to see the community up close changes how important this means. Everyone was such wonderful people. The one public event I’ve attended in my life where I felt truly accepted and safe.

Did writers forget about “Barge of the Dead” in season 7? During “Imperfection”, Seven ask B’Elanna if she believes in afterlife. Her response is ‘I hope so.

She literally went to hell and back. How does that not make her believe in it?

I like to point to Idiocracy (a movie you couldn’t make today but I saw for the first time in 2024; I think it was good) which Crocs are used as shoes for the future because they were not widely available and the costume designer said “There's no way people will wear them.”

I stand vindicated that Crocs are idiotic.

I’m pretty sure this is in response to a recent California bill that forces digital storefronts to disclose if it is a license you are getting. Otherwise the storefront is not allowed to use words like “buy” or “purchase”.

I guess none of you noticed the editorial board has a signature from Ted Kaczynski, aka Unabomber.

Didn’t Trump get famous for “firing” people on TV?

I fucking hate Blanco. I live in the county he is in. When the pandemic hit in 2020, he openly reported to the public that he would not enforce the health orders the county was issuing. On top of that he had many, many of his deputies die in the prison system due to COVID, plus the jail system in the county has been criticized for issues under his watch. Maybe worst of all, he was a member of Oath Keepers.

I fucking hate this dude. To make the matters worse again, back in March, the Riverside County Supervisors voted against separating the Sheriff’s Department from the Corner’s office. Apparently there have been a number of unexplained(?) deaths in the jail system that the department has not investigated after receiving complaints from families.

He is one of the worst people in elected office in Riverside County. Somehow people keep voting for him.

I don’t trust Boeing with airplanes anymore. What makes you think I trust them with spacecraft of any kind?

No shock here. A majority of the world is on a stance of “anything/anyone against the state of Israel is antisemitism”. This is such a false equivalency. Just because something/someone is against what the government of Israel, does not mean it/they are hateful towards the Jewish people. Hell, making such an equivalency is placing actually Jewish people in an unintended hate group.
