Honestly, depending on your ethnicity or where you live, touring as a musician in the U.S. these days seems difficult because of that for you and your fans. I don’t get why anyone overseas would want to tour in the U.S. right now.

[-] PhilipTheBucket@piefed.social 83 points 1 month ago

I don't get why anyone from overseas would come to the US right now. They can just randomly decide today's your day and throw you in prison in Louisiana for no reason at all.

[-] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago

It's based on entitlement. "That would never happen to me because I'm a good person"

[-] PhilipTheBucket@piefed.social 20 points 1 month ago

It shouldn't really be an "entitlement" mindset to think that you shouldn't go to prison if you didn't do anything wrong.

[-] Captainvaqina@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 month ago

It's completely and utterly anti-american to be forced to have that mindset.

Whoever would cause that mindset is the active enemy of every single citizen.

[-] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 4 points 1 month ago

Trump couldn't even answer a reporter's basic questions about the Declaration of Independence. He certainly wouldn't understand the concept that God himself endowed ALL people with Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness - three things that MAGAs despise.

[-] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

It shouldn't but in America you can be detained for less. And my ethnicity makes me worried if I was ever detained so yeah, Americans need to realize the reality shift in this fascist landscape. It might not affect you but MANY of us have cause for concern.

[-] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 2 points 1 month ago

The problem is that the determination that you are a good person or not, is being made by very bad people. Your characterization of yourself as "good" is irrelevant.

[-] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 5 points 1 month ago

It's not even that. They are demanding to go through visitor's phones, and denying entry if they've criticized Trump on social media.

Imagine you've saved for a few years for a big trip to America, bought plane and theme parks tickets, put down deposits on lodging, pre-paid for car rentals, arrange for time off for everyone in the group, etc., only to get turned away at the border because you said something negative about the worst president in American history.

There are an infinite number of places in the world to visit that will be just as fun and relaxing. No need to go to the one place that won't welcome you and your money.

[-] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 35 points 1 month ago

I've never heard of him, but I don't blame him. It makes sense

[-] Jeffool@lemmy.world 31 points 1 month ago

In addition to being an insanely popular musician he's also been in several WWE matches (and actually did great,) has been on SNL, and played the waiter-turned-caddy in Happy Gilmore 2 in a guest spot. So he's pretty well known. Not to be aggro or suggest that's the creme de la creme of celebrity, just to let you know the level he operates on. He's pretty well recognized at a glance to a lot of people.

My sister in law last year accused me of being a misogynist because I don't like Taylor Swift's music. She argued that since Swift is the most-downloaded artist ever on Spotify, that means she is objectively the greatest singer-songwriter in history and the only reason I could possibly dislike her music is that I don't like women. I suggested that she must be racist because she doesn't like Kanye West and Bad Bunny (who are the second- and third-most downloaded or thereabouts artists on Spotify) and she was like "who is Bad Bunny?"

[-] thatKamGuy@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 month ago

Don’t forget he was also in the movie Bullet Train with Brad Pitt!

Bad Bunny is outside of my orbit, and I hadn't heard of him until he was first on SNL, but you can tell that he did SNL once and decided this is what he was all about now. He is very cute that way.

[-] QualifiedKitten@discuss.online 4 points 1 month ago

Every time I hear his name, I get mixed up with Bhad Bhabie and wonder WTF is wrong with people for still paying her any attention. Then realize, apparently it's just me. I'm the problem.

[-] mcv@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 month ago

I don't know either of these people.

[-] aesthelete@lemmy.world 25 points 1 month ago

Completely reasonable

[-] heyWhatsay@slrpnk.net 22 points 1 month ago

Someone cares about their fans

[-] robocall@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago

I imagine he doesn't want to see a news headline that says "ICE snatches x amount of people from Bad Bunny concert" I wouldn't want that either.

[-] MourningDove@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 month ago
[-] k0e3@lemmy.ca 21 points 1 month ago

It takes two seconds to Google it and not sound like an idiot. C'mon man.

[-] MourningDove@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

C’mon man… It would have taken seconds to just say who they were, and no time at all for you to just not respond. But you had to sound edgy.

[-] k0e3@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 month ago

Right, I should have been more like some asshole who wanted to not sound edgy at all by saying they don't know who this super famous guy is and by responding to every single comment and blaming the "hivemind." Jesus christ.

[-] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 5 points 1 month ago

The headline mentions his tour is skipping America, obviously he's an internationally touring artist.

But you want to know more, and write "TF is Bad Bunny," and you are accusing someone else of trying to sound edgy? Lame, dude.

Do you think this is a search engine?

an absurdly popular puerto rican musician come tf on

[-] MourningDove@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 month ago

Apologies for not keeping up with the current flavor of the week.

[-] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

The week? He was absurdly popular when he was in Bullet Train. That movie came out 3 years ago. The flavor of the 150+ weeks.

[-] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 18 points 1 month ago

He's possibly the most globally popular musician.

[-] MourningDove@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 month ago

I can safely say I have never heard the name before today.

[-] jawa22 2 points 1 month ago

To be fair, I haven't either.

[-] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

It's okay that you've never heard of him until now. The key is that he is globally popular. He's a Puerto Rican that sings in Spanish. He's not as popular in the English speaking world.

[-] billwashere@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

I’m a 54 white dude and even I knew who this was. I mean mainly because he was in that Brad Pitt movie Bullet Train but still…

[-] robocall@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago

He is a successful musician that mostly sings in Spanish, from Puerto Rico.

[-] MourningDove@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 month ago

Thank you. Apparently the hive will rip you to shreds if you don’t know who their favorite celebrities are?
I appreciate you for responding without insults. I thought this place was different than Reddit. Seems it’s the same arrogance, but surprisingly more smug.

[-] ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

the hive

I thought this place was different than Reddit

lol, nothing is more "reddit" than complaining about "the hive" when your opinion is getting curb-stomped.

Look him up if you don't want to be publicly ignorant, agian.

[-] MourningDove@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 month ago

What’s hilarious is the amount of smug arrogance it takes to spend your time typing up a witty response just so you can be a part of the public flogging of someone that simply asked a honest question-

Where you could have just answered the question. Or better yet, said nothing at all.

[-] nyctre@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

You have 6 comments in a thread with 36 responses. None of yours are on topic, some of them are quite offensive.

Here is an example of a different person in the same thread who also didn't know who the artist was. They somehow managed to be on topic and illicit positive replies.

Yes, it's a forum for people to talk and ask questions. But you've gotta realise that there's a right and a wrong way to go about it. If you're gonna post something useless that can easily be answered by typing the name in a search bar, the least you can do is be nice about it.

[-] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 2 points 1 month ago

The question was answered in the headline. He's obviously a musical artist of a big enough stature that he has an international tour, and it's skipping America.

That's the answer to your question. If you want to know more, you should try a search engine called Google, since you probably haven't heard of that either.

[-] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

I thought he held the US shows all in Puerto Rico so people would visit there? I just heard a story about it on npr
