A troubling incident unfolded in Redmond, Washington, where Native American actress Elaine Miles was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents while she was simply walking to a bus stop to go shopping. According to the Seattle Times, the agents claimed she was carrying false identification — even though the document she presented was her tribal ID.

Miles, an Indigenous performer known for her roles in Northern Exposure, Smoke Signals, Wyvern and The Last of Us, handed over her tribal identification card issued by the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation in Oregon. As the newspaper notes, federal agencies recognize tribal IDs as valid identification, and Miles has long used hers to travel in and out of Canada and Mexico without any difficulty.

The agents — wearing tactical vests and masks and driving two black SUVs with no front plates — refused to accept the ID, insisting it was “fake” and that “anyone can make that.”

According to his Spotify profile, Solomon Ray is a “Mississippi-made soul singer carrying a Southern soul revival into the present.” His most recent release, a Christmas EP called A Soulful Christmas, features tracks with titles like “Soul to the World” and “Jingle Bell Soul.”

Ray is a verified artist on the streaming platform, draws over 324,000 monthly listeners, and became the top artist on the iTunes top 100 Christian and gospel albums chart this week. But Solomon Ray (at least, this Solomon Ray) is not a real person. Artificial intelligence crafted his persona, voice, performance style, and lyrics.

In a 36-page ruling Wednesday, an Atlanta-based federal appeals court panel unanimously affirmed that Trump and his lawyer had committed “sanctionable conduct” in filing a “frivolous” lawsuit against Hillary Clinton and former FBI Director James Comey.

“Many of Trump’s and Habba’s legal arguments were indeed frivolous,” wrote Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals Chief Judge William Pryor Jr., meaning that the claims were fictitious and likely intended to harass, delay, or embarrass the defendants. Pryor was joined by Trump appointee Andrew Brasher and Biden appointee Embry Kidd.
