Are API calls to the device signed or whatever? At a minimum one could snoop traffic to rev-eng the API, then recreate it on a lan-only segment

I'm just going to say it: thanks! It's good to be reminded that there are not only people willing to help trans people, but others willing to step up financially to back them up

[-] BonkTheAnnoyed 19 points 1 week ago

don’t think using the term “trans people” is the problem. It’s a tool of language, and

It is supposed to be two word, just like that. Mashing them together is the issue.

[-] BonkTheAnnoyed 11 points 1 week ago

Honestly that just sounds confusing. It also feels akin to misgendering cis people to "teach them a lesson," which is rarely helpful and usually just gives permission to do the same back to you.

~~transpeople~~ (and ~~transman~~ and ~~tramswoman~~) is dehumanizing.

“Trans people” and “cis people.” Otherwise it reads like, “blarglepeople” and “actual people.”

The mashing together of the words was the language of the early anti-trans propaganda. It was successful enough that even allies continue to use it, unfortunately. Mostly because they’ve come up with new and worse ways to deny our existence while specifically addressing us.

I would say that it feels like blowing into the wind, but I know things like this can change, especially if 'teh youth" get it.

Prison rape is never funny. It’s traumatic, violent, and life destroying.

Sea-lioning replies justifying rape will be blocked.

There's an interesting kind of poster that I've only seen here on Lemmy, the "why bother, it's not going to work" poster.

Why vote? It doesn't matter.

Why write or call your rep, they're in the pocket of blah blah anyway?

Why put a bumper sticker in your car? Performative BS, maaaan.

Etm etm...

How do you feel when you see Trump stickers everywhere?

How do you feel when you're in a neighborhood with pride flags everywhere? Is that different and better?

What about when you see Wellstone! sticker in deep red Midwest? A little hope that there are other people who haven't given up?

Show up! Speak out! Be visible! Live into the small moments of joy where resistance lives!

One more step to unhitching from Google...

Right now the only option I see in F-Droid is Aegis.

I'm not sure what to actually look for side from checking for unexpected permissions and reasonably frequent updates.

Hopefully something I can sync with a GNOME app...

Planning on switching to GrapheneOS soon. Anyone know if they're planning on implementing the side-loading restrictions?

Second that. Mu daily driver now. It doesn't have every bell and whistle but by that same token it is refreshingly lightweight.

Late to the party, but:

A vessel may be defined as an object that keeps the water either in or out; it is the latter sort that concerns us.

I recently picked up an older but perfectly adequate HP Z Book Firefly with a built-in smart card reader and I'm wondering what possible use is this little bit of tech? Can I, like, auth with my credit card or whatever? (mostly joking, I briefly looked at the PAM config for that and prefer my current hobbies lol)

Season three was freaking amazing!

It's like the album your favorite band made when they were trying to get kicked off the label and did all the dumb shit they always wanted to do but didn't have the money.

Season three is some of the best ST ever made

... eating ice cream directly from the pint.

It always destroys spoons eventually, might as well use ones too sharp, too tinny, too light, the wrong shape, or with just the wrong bend in them already.

Edit: for all the head scratchers out there, it's a trait some of us neurodivergent folks have. Some forks or spoons or whatever are nice to hold, and some are actually upsetting to use.

See, this is interesting. I'm out here looking for the new shiny easy button, but what I'm hearing is "the old config-file based thing works really well. ain't broken, etc."

I may give that a swing and see.

"It's legal if we like it." -- GOP, probably.

They did more than that, their bathroom got blown up by a religious nut over their inclusive bathroom policy, and they re-opened without changing their policy.

They advocated internally for LGBTQ people especially trans people.

That's why this absolute cave, spinning about-face so fast they could start a fire without matches... this is so fucking dumb.

And the people who see it are justifiably disgusted.
