Jocat didn't get cancelled, he got bullied and his family threatened to the point he quit.

[-] Donkter@lemmy.world 59 points 10 months ago

Ironically that's far closer to actually being cancelled than whatever conservatives complain about.

[-] mobius_slip@beehaw.org 8 points 10 months ago

This is going to sound like a dumb question, but what's the difference? Getting cancelled isn't exactly an official status that is bestowed on people.

[-] Wes_Dev@lemmy.ml 5 points 10 months ago

"The viewers are mad because of something you did or said, so we're cancelling your show on our network."

vs

"Hey everyone on this forum, let's all dox this person and send anonymous hate mail to their actual home."

Seriously, all that over a 30s song that's not even offensive? We've successfully moved from snowflakes to frozen hydrogen territory.

Approaching absolute zero...

[-] Changer098@lemmy.dbzer0.com 42 points 10 months ago

If I'm reading this right, he, and his family, got doxxed and threatened for the "I like Girls" video?? What in the actual fuck??

Also that video is a straight banger.

YouTuber/Twitch steamer.

[-] Candelestine@lemmy.world 21 points 10 months ago

Apparently this is just some twitter drama? Not exactly Earth's finest left back in that pit, don't let them drag you down. Gotta be strong these days.

[-] Dexx1s@lemmy.world 14 points 10 months ago

It's a little different when you're getting doxxed and your family is getting pulled into it IRL.

[-] Candelestine@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

Oh, I see. That's not cancelling, that's a more severe form of online harassment. Probably a job for the police, if they actually gave a shit.

[-] SnotFlickerman 12 points 10 months ago

Despite being very grateful for what this job has done for me and my family, I’m simply not strong enough to keep doing this if it means having to just accept this kind and amount of distress. Perhaps that makes me weak, but I’ve rarely ever really thought otherwise.

I agree with Jocat, this isn't a sign of weakness.

Can we drop this "gotta be strong" shit when people are literally dealing with thousands of random abusive asshats never leaving them be?

[-] Candelestine@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

Yeah, not saying they were the ones that need to be strong. OP is, if he's this upset about what's happening. Creating distress is their goal.

[-] SnotFlickerman 2 points 10 months ago

That's a fair take, thanks for the clarification.

[-] Letstakealook@lemm.ee 2 points 10 months ago

Idk what it's about, but I think OP must be chronically online to post something like this with zero context expecting everyone else to understand it. It is time to touch grass and stop emotionally investing in internet drama.

[-] macmacfire@lemmy.ml 1 points 10 months ago

I wasn't expecting anyone to understand without context(you can just find the context if you're curious), and I'm not chronically online for being saddened by something horrible happening to someone I, in some way, idolize. Also, this isn't internet drama, it's a person being harassed and cyberbullied out of their career.

[-] Dagnet@lemmy.world 21 points 10 months ago

That's why we don't get more jocat videos on YouTube? Holy shit people just suck

[-] shneancy@lemmy.world 12 points 10 months ago

as a wannabe creator it's rather terrifying to see that even Jocat, one of the softest and most wholesome creators I've had the pleasure of watching - gets bullied out of doing what he loves. Where are those hate mobs coming from? what is their point?

[-] EvolvedTurtle@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

I've thought about being a content creator for a while And I am 100% gonna be anonymous

[-] mossy_@lemmy.world 6 points 10 months ago

Jocat gave me a lifetime ban like seven years ago when I sent a message in his twitch chat that didn't translate right. Sent an apology dm to him in hopes I could clear it up, but that seemed to make things worse. People just don't give each other the benefit of the doubt on the internet 😔

I can go on about it but I imagine there's not much interest, just wanted to vent.
