But if I cannot make my ray tracing game engine from scratch where is the fun?

Don't listen to the puppet. Cook whatever ill-conceived idea you have. We need more unique jank

“What if death in a video game actually had consequences? Just imagine: You’re a detective looking into a murder that the police abandoned. Investigate the scene, and bam! There’s a culprit there searching for something! You reach for your gun, and then mess up with the controls for firing and accidentally use a bandage because you’re new to the game. The culprit shoots the detective, and he dies.

A generation later, the victim’s son has grown up, and has taken over the mantle. Between business ventures, he explores old properties that he thinks had something to do with his father’s death. Exploring a derelict old building, he chances a leap over a collapsed floor. But, not realizing the game had QuickTime events, he messes up the jump and gets impaled.

We then go generations later to a wheelchair-bound PI in the far flung dystopian future. After an hour long conversation with his caretaker, he enters a secret room where he looks over the evidence handed to him by the detective and the son to see if he can piece together the mystery from a century ago. Was it The Butler? Or was it [NO OTHER SUSPECTS AVAILABLE]”

and still the gameplay is pretty damn good for some reason

Those in game graphics are still more desirable than the slop cover or any slop-made sprites

Game developer: I use game engine A, sound engine B, library C, framework D... I don't even remember the definition of the word "invent".

Gamedev: I also have no idea why your CPU and GPU are running at 100%, it works fine on my computer

Hmm, well those nail plates holding the spokes to the wheel could instead be replaced by the spokes being drilled into the wheel. And while we're at it...

My favorite genre of YouTube videos is game dev logs where the developer spends months rewriting the game from scratch just to solve a minuscule thing while completely overlooking an obvious easy solution

Just so you know, this works for Industrial Engineers / machinists as well, apparently.

"Why TF is that wheel not round?! Two minutes on the lathe and I'm out.". I have somewhere I need to be right now IRL BTW.

Yes, but I've got this great idea for an octagonal wheel that I think will work even better.

"aight let's switch game engine"

[-] sudoMakeUser@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago

Perfectly good wheel for a medieval horse cart. It's not even round.
