Sounds like Christianity to me. No fucking way. Not in this country. Never

[-] huppakee@lemmy.world 3 points 6 hours ago

Do you mean the Christianity inside or outside the US? Because to me this does not in anyway sound like US Christianity. Maybe a little bit their preaching, but surely not their actions.

[-] Proprietary_Blend@lemmy.world 4 points 5 hours ago

I mean the Christian community that has provided love and support for my family.

[-] huppakee@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

~~Where~~ Were these things they did or only things they said they do?

[-] Proprietary_Blend@lemmy.world 3 points 5 hours ago
[-] huppakee@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago

Were* they feeding the poor, housing the unhoused etc, or was it all talk?

[-] Proprietary_Blend@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

Both. First they talk about it. Then they do it. What's your beef? Do you have personal reasons to dislike Christianity, or have you just been in the echo chamber too long?

[-] huppakee@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

I have no dislike of Christianity in particular, i have a problem with religion as a tool to make a distinction between us and them. I am aware I am doing it too, but I am not an institution. The point of my question, which was genuine, was to understand your comment better. It is meaner than necessary.

[-] Proprietary_Blend@lemmy.world 3 points 3 hours ago

You're alright! Forgive me for being defensive. I live in the southeastern part of Pennsylvania. There are several active Christian organizations around here. They are actively supporting the community with thought and deed.

I do not attend church, but I do participate in the effort. We pack and deliver boxes of food several times a year with an organization called JRA "Jewish Relief Agency". We beautify public gardens in the spring and fall. We support youth with scouting programs and parades for the local athletics organizations.

It's not all that bad.

[-] huppakee@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

Nice, keep up the good work!

[-] HulkSmashBurgers@reddthat.com 2 points 6 hours ago

I'm gonna assume he's being sarcastic.

[-] sirico@feddit.uk 1 points 2 hours ago

But the/s how do you know it's sarcastic without the /s!

[-] Polisheocket@lemmy.zip 2 points 6 hours ago

Would be great for CA, homeless would leave CA for NY.

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

While I agree those services would help make a decision, I'd think climate (and where they became homeless, and where they have family) are far bigger factors.

I've only been transitionally homeless though, my experience and assumptions are probably very different than someone who is or has been homeless for a while.

It is all about what the oligarchs want and how they can manipulate the masses to support their agenda. Turns out it is quit easy to get folks to support hating their neighbors, and even hang themselves out to dry.

Remember when Jesus freed the slaves of Jerusalem? What a badass section of the Bible

Oh wait no that never happened. In fact, Jesus never even spoke negatively about slavery.

Bummer.

But sure, I guess other than completely ignoring the concept of owning a person in the same way you own oxen, he really wanted everyone to care about one another.

[-] cravl@slrpnk.net 2 points 4 hours ago

That's because slavery in that culture was not what we think of when we think of slavery today. There are numerous passages throughout the Old and New Testaments detailing how slaves were to be treated with the utmost respect, which was otherwise unheard of in antiquity. To give just one example:

If your brother, a Hebrew man or a Hebrew woman, is sold[a] to you, he shall serve you six years, and in the seventh year you shall let him go free from you. And when you let him go free from you, you shall not let him go empty-handed. You shall furnish him liberally out of your flock, out of your threshing floor, and out of your winepress. As the Lord your God has blessed you, you shall give to him. You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God redeemed you; therefore I command you this today. But if he says to you, ‘I will not go out from you,’ because he loves you and your household, since he is well-off with you, then you shall take an awl, and put it through his ear into the door, and he shall be your slave[b] forever. And to your female slave[c] you shall do the same. It shall not seem hard to you when you let him go free from you, for at half the cost of a hired worker he has served you six years. So the Lord your God will bless you in all that you do.

– Deuteronomy 15:12-18

[a]: Or sells himself

[b,c]: Or servent. The Hebrew term ébed is used to describe a wide range of socioeconomic roles. (The Greek word doulos in the New Testament is similar, as in Colossians 4:1.)

God wanted them to be treated as family. It was basically a structured mutual aid partnership.

Criticism without research doesn't mean much.

THAT'S COMMUNISM AND MOSLIM EMPANADA

[-] im_fine_sandy@nord.pub 3 points 8 hours ago

Conservatives think all three things are bad because they think it will cost them money.

[-] Ravenheart@lemmy.zip 1 points 4 hours ago

Yet they're okay with war and genocide, even though that costs them money too. It's clearly not about the money. The point is cruelty.

[-] weps@lemmy.world 7 points 10 hours ago

lacks the very important racism

[-] jtrek@startrek.website 74 points 17 hours ago

I'm still haunted by the realization that conservatives want hierarchy. They want underclasses. Even when they're not the top! They don't want free health care because then the wrong sort of people will get it!

They're bad people! It's not about "cost" or market efficiency or anything else they say.

[-] Oyml77@lemmy.today 7 points 7 hours ago

People on the left have a belief that society should benefit everyone. No one should suffer from too little when someone has excess. It's a pretty basic tenet of progressive belief.

People on the right vote like they don't believe in society at all. They vote like everyone should fend for themselves and fuck the rest. Then they complain when their government benefits get cut and the prices get too high because it wasn't supposed to be them that got fucked. They weren't supposed to be the "rest."

I don't think they understand that progressive policies are intended to help the most racist piece-of-shit MAGA fuckwits as much as anyone else. They only want to have it better than someone, ANYONE else, so they aren't at the bottom rung.

Although I'd say that the correct thing to do is only help the ones who really deserve it (and MAGA, incels, "High Value Maless" KKK and all that actually don't deserve that, just as PETA [better known as animal killers], femcels, "High Value Womans", and radical far-leftists shouldn't).

[-] underscores@lemmy.zip 22 points 12 hours ago

This is why when people post anti-right wing messages they don't realize it's not the right angle

Wrong angle: they only want the top class to access health care

Right angle: most Americans cannot afford to see doctors

This is because they read the message and think "hell yeah fuck em [derogatory word]s"

To address far right people. You ALWAYS have to frame it in a way where it's about THEMSELVES.

It's the same thing with anti-left wing messages. You'll see fox News going "antifa wants more of our tax dollars to feed children". It's like ....hell yeah.

[-] Malyca@lemmy.zip 5 points 15 hours ago

20% are predisposed to this kind of thinking and they make up the bulk of fascists.

[-] Archimedes@sh.itjust.works 4 points 11 hours ago

[-] human@slrpnk.net 27 points 17 hours ago

My tax dollars better not be wasted on helping people. /s

[-] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 1 points 22 minutes ago

How about on helping defense contractors and billionaires?

Jesus only freed slaves because he didn't wanted any competition in the business /s

[-] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 7 points 15 hours ago

Unironically this.

[-] osanna@lemmy.vg 8 points 14 hours ago

Eww. Helping others less fortunate? Wut???

[-] WanderingThoughts@europe.pub 5 points 13 hours ago

Make wise political choices but don't heroicize a politician, this universally leads to disappointment.
