Any other politician and id call it performative

...but hes kinda doing shit like this daily so i think hes just really happy to be mayor and loves his city 🤷

[-] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 59 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

It’s definitely performative. But that doesn’t diminish it in the least. He is getting shit done, and advertising it effectively. If every politician clout chased this way, people wouldn’t have such vehement hatred for them. He has an amazing pr team and he’s governing effectively. You could ask for literally not a thing more.

[-] HostilePasta@lemmy.ml 23 points 2 days ago

Clearly you can ask for pussy.

[-] Malyca@lemmy.zip 11 points 2 days ago

It's performative, but to who? He's performing for the working class, not for the Epstein class. That matters a ton.

[-] StupidBrotherInLaw@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago

You're right. Most successful politicians are extremely performative. What matters with Mamdani is who he's primarily performing for, and it's not the wealthy Epstein class.

[-] Imaginary_Stand4909 11 points 2 days ago

Exactly. In fact, I love that he's openly displaying the stuff he does arohnd the city, because it lets me know of the wondeful stuff he's doing rather than how so many reps refuse to advertise the stuff they do and have a nice record of their actions. I definitely think some of them obscure what they do because they don't want voters to realize how shady they are, but it just frustrates mr more when i have to go out of my way to dig through records of a politicians vote history.

If they would be fucking transparent they wouldn't be struggling to get votes, but whatever...

Just imagine politicians' PR wars being a race to see who can fix the most shit around

I think we need to get away from calling things performative. It has a very negative connotation. What he's doing is leading from the front. He's making his presence, opinions, and values known and is showing it.

[-] Funkt4st1c@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

I meant it negatively. If i saw a picture of Trump doing blue collar work, it would be performative (derogatory).

My point is that mamdani lives the performance, and therefore is, in reality, just a stand-up guy who is leading from the front lines.

[-] FinjaminPoach@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

You might even say he is "performative" because it is his job, as a politician.

[-] Notyou@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

He was out shoveling snow AFTER he got elected and people were still calling it performative. He's just a good dude.

[-] Avicenna@programming.dev 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Is he a left populist? Yes he is. But atleast he draws attention to actual problems (homelessness, grocery prices) and their real reasons (governmental policies and bad leadership) rather than pointing at the same problems and then making up bullshit reasons like "immigrants are taking our jobs and eating our cats"

[-] jack_of_sandwich@lemmy.sdf.org 5 points 2 days ago

It's performative to some extent. There's no reason he needs to be there personally. It's a photo op.

But he does seem to be taking the needs of his constituents seriously.

[-] OwOarchist@pawb.social 41 points 2 days ago

Within two days, Mamdani is going to come personally fuck that guy.

[-] driving_crooner@lemmy.eco.br 46 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

There was also the guy who did a video showing two potholes close his home at the morning and then came back in the afternoon to find them fixed.

You can bet NY municipal workers are engaged AF with Mamdani's administration.

Probably gonna get a reply from the animal shelters asking him to volunteer, guaranteed pussy everyday (insert cutecat.gif)

Really taking your chances if you decide to hot swap that thing.

[-] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 days ago

If you look closely you can see that it has an input for your keyboard too (mostly hidden by the wire bundle), no hot swapping needed!

[-] Okokimup@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Thought I was scrolling down to a tampon.

[-] FinjaminPoach@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

That's actually super mamdani-pilled (acts of public service) and is likely to get Rodger to meet and bond with other volunteers, many of which will be women.

[-] Blibly@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

Also cute girls at the animal shelter. We like people who like animals 🤷‍♀️

[-] thisbenzingring@lemmy.today 10 points 2 days ago

This is the parable, do good things for good reason and be sure to find legit amazing and awesome people. The opportunity for love multiplies exponentially

[-] eestileib@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago

[-] helpImTrappedOnline@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

Some union plumber is going to sue him for taking their work away.

Fun fact, the New York city wage for a plumber doing state government work is currently 78.05/hour.

[-] FinjaminPoach@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

I think the tweet was misleading - isn't mamdani just watching from the left hand side rather than performing the repair himself?

Usually there's another plumber standing by watching the first do the repair and Mamdani is taking that plumber's job.

[-] csolisr@hub.azkware.net 4 points 2 days ago

"Don't worry Rodger, you're already one" [FIXED]
