That looks like Robot Wars: Arenas of Destruction to me. I don't know if it got a different name for the US release.
One of my favourite childhood games

Correct ! Wow I thought this one was going to unsolved !
Only came out on PC in the US and we never got its amazing sequel..
Both Arenas of Destruction and Extreme Destruction are fun games, but I think I personally enjoyed Arenas of Destruction more. Purely for that one level with all the landmines, that was endless entertainment for me
Game: Robot Wars: Arenas of Destruction Publisher: BBC/Vivendi Universal Developer: Climax Platform: PS2 / Windows (US only got PC release) Release: 2001 (UK) / 2002 (US)

Thanks for all who participated! Will do another tomorrow !!
I'd recognize Battle Bots anywhere. Never played a Battle Bots game so I don't know if the name is different
Robot Arena 2
Because I don't think it's either Battle Bots or Robot Wars. It's just that scythe looking hook thing looks familiar from somewhere in a game like this.
I loved the Robot Arena games (except for 3) I thought about doing that game. But remembered this one was even more obscure.
Oh man, played so many hours of this as a kid. I looked it up and it looks like it might actually hold up today as being decently detailed. I might have to boot it up again.
It's a damn shame that GOG didn't go out of their way to pick up both of these games. They were some of the first of their kind.
Check out Robot Rumble 2! It's admittedly rougher to onboard and lacks tutorials, but it's modern and has a pretty solid bot builder. Once it clicks, it really opens up. And it's free.
It’s a really hard game to get into and the UI is as ugly as Sin. But the physics are on another level. Here is hoping it gets some UI revamps .
And some ai bots to fight out of the box.
Battle RC is 5 dollar game on Steam that looks promising.
You got it. Has to be.
I'm not giving the answer but I'm surprised honestly that I was actually wrong here.
Reminds me of that BattleBots game that released on like, GameCube/PS2. And GBA for some reason.
EDIT: Okay, apparently the console version never released which makes sense since the only way I remember it is from a gaming magazine image. The GBA game was released with a subtitle.
The console game was developed by THQ and allegedly was close to completion. It’s a shame it never came out.
Oh shit, I used to have this game in a 4-pack with Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 back when I was a teenager. Was the name Robot Arena? I don't have the disk anymore to check
