I'm doing two simultaneous runs, a good Sorcadin run on Tactician and a dark urge, evil Berserker run in Honor Mode that follows along. The good party is basically acting as an advance team to remind me of the scary encounters, ambushes etc. but I've also never done an evil durge run so it's not exactly a 1:1 comparison.

The evil party is just shy of Act 2, but I'm playing with the only companions I have access to (because of my evil actions) and I'm roughly trying to play them on type. Astarion is a Gloomstalker Assassin, Lae'zel is an Eldritch Knight and Shadowheart is a Light Domain Cleric. We are cake walking at the moment, didn't really break a sweat through the Underdark and Monastery. I'm concerned at not having a true caster... But I'm also sort of intrigued at the viability of this party.

Counterspell is the big thing I'm worried about. The advance team is proccing it constantly. Also replacing Haste with potions would suck and I can't get the Haste bow (I assume, Dammon is dead). So far relying on cleric skills for AoE has been working okay.

Can I get away with using speed potions and maybe something clever like going full anti-magic and using Sussur blooms with some party tweaks?(edit: apparently that's not possible anymore, but still Silencing weapons etc.)

Or, should I bite the bullet and spec Minthara as something castery when I get her? If so, who do I replace?

Any suggestions welcome.

Most of us are familiar with the lines that our characters say when we select them via their portraits, but have you ever spent several seconds repeatedly clicking the same portrait? Do it enough times, and they might say something you've never heard before.

I think my favorite so far is......a reference to a villain in a well-known D&D adventure.

Edit: Running through Steam fixed it. I guess it pulled in some library that I had missed.

I've got a strange problem that nobody else seems to have.

All the small ability and item icons are missing. They don't show up at all.

Now, I have an unusual software combination running so it's probably because of that, but it's still a strange symptom. I'm running OpenSUSE Tumbleweed on a Steam Deck. I have BG3 from GOG and got the Linux binaries from a friend.

Apart from this bug the Linux version runs superbly. The bug shows up whether I have mods on or not, I have tried complete reinstalls and running with completely empty config directory. I can see the bug already in character creation. Icons from mods that would add new icons like Mystra's Spells don't show up either.

Anyone ever seen something like this?

There isn't any obvious way to either see where your low-ass level gang can quest next and there's also no zone where you can keep grinding to build a few levels before moving on like in a Final Fantasy or something. That means while you have a giant freely accessible map, early encounters in the wrong neighbourhood will kill you dead anyway so there's still railroading going on.

I was moving the camera around without paying attention to where I clicked. Somehow, this barrel was launched onto the wall, and there it remains stuck.

I'm sure it was somehow Gale's fault. I heard him mumble something about specific gravity while talking with the brewmaster.

Apologies if this sort of post isn't allowed. So I've given BG3 a go two times now. Both times I've been excited and expected that it's likely something I'll be into. But I get down to it and I just lose steam with it pretty quickly

I was wondering if there's a point early on where it takes a big jump in engaging you and I just didn't get to that point? I didn't really get that far past the starting "spaceship" area (not sure if I should call it that), so I know I haven't given it that much of a chance. I know there'll be many places that are a lot more interesting throughout it

But I dunno, it just doesn't keep my attention. The gameplay doesn't feel that great for me personally. So if it's kinda just more of the same in terms of gameplay, just with the (no doubt) great plot unfolding and better surroundings then it might just not be for me. I mostly play soulslikes, which is obviously pretty different gameplay, and I struggle to get into most games not in that style. I just really wanted to like BG3 so don't want to write it off without asking this. Not saying it's a bad game or anything, it's clearly a masterpiece, but might just not be my thing

Baldur’s Gate 3 has been Steam Deck Verified since 2023, but with HotFix 34, Larain wanted to take things to the next level with a native Steam Deck version of the game. This new version has optimised Steam Deck settings enabled by default, and runs without needing to use Proton, the Steam Deck’s compatibility layer.

Simply put, this new version of Baldur’s Gate 3 runs more efficiently. Instead of using a compatibility layer, it now runs directly on Valve’s Steam Deck hardware. This frees up CPU and memory performance, allowing the game to run faster. This gives the game a more stable framerate, faster loading times, and smoother gameplay. [...]

Had the weirdest experience this weekend. I am playing a Tav, my husband is playing Gale, selected at character creation. We are both main characters in our story. We get to the Zaith'isk and we decide to let Gale get the buff. Switch to cut scene, Gale decides to get in the buff before getting in to the contraption, despite the fact that he was fully clothed before the scene with no shenanigans occurring from the husband nor any mods that would prompt this. After some save scumming and rolls, he exits the contraption fully clothed again.

Anyone else ever experience a weird bug like this?

Romancing the gith (sh.itjust.works)

So, I only recently started my first run through. Didn't give a flying fig about the romance stuff, it was just something to click through to get back to story and combat.

Annnnd then act 3 hits, and Lae'zel wants to talk one morning and gives a dialogue that actually brought a tear to my eye. Ffs, she's one of the least likable characters at the beginning of the game. More an annoyance than anything else, story wise.

And then she rejects her queen, finds love and there's this beautiful moment. Definitely not the writing I expected for her, but damned if it didn't work.

Makes me want to actually pay attention to the romance arcs now, see what the rest are like.

I found that if you have the Idol of Silvanus in your inventory, it will reveal ambushes and hiding creatures. It won't show you directly. But when they're in range the blessing gets applied to them as well letting you know they are in the area.
