Imagine you woke up tomorrow and found out you’d been in a Truman Show dome your entire life. How would you feel about the fact that they made the Jim Carrey movie and put it where you could see it?

I'm a homebody, I'd be the most boring person to watch.

"Oh! He moved from the chair infront of his computer to the bed! Oh! He's off to fix some food and now is back on the chair infront of the computer!" And it'll be like hours upon hours like that. I live routinely so it'd be predictably boring.

Who in the world downvoted you within 3 hours on a 4 day old thread?!

Retards with too much time on their hands. I'm not surprised a handful of them are from .world, sh.it.justworks, blahj zone and all of them. They seem to harbor some pretty antagonizing people with no hobbies, goals, or anything. They think they can just trudge into posts to flex their degenerative aura.

actually i do sometimes think that life is in some sense a drama (theater stage), and what we perform is often at least as important as what we actually do in reality.

i.e. there's a whole lot of symbolic interactions throughout the day. for example every time that we speak to someone. it doesn't change reality, but another person's mind, so it's a symbolic interaction.

Too boring. Would have been cancelled when I was a boring little kid. Who's going to watch someone play with Legos for 16 fucking hours straight?

[-] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 19 points 3 days ago

Pissed. I'd be pissed. Yall just watched me suffer for decades. For entertainment.

[-] RebekahWSD@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Yeah! Fucking monstrous to not do anything after certain events that happened to me. Or worse, to have planned those? It's horrible to even think of all the implications.

That's gonna entertain them even more

I’d apologize to the viewers that the show has been so dull. I’d probably blame the writers, they obviously hired utter hacks.

[-] Sharkticon@lemmy.zip 6 points 3 days ago

Probably a bit miffed at what absolute shit writers my show had. Cause this sucks.

[-] cepelinas@sopuli.xyz 5 points 3 days ago

Laugh at how much money they would have lost, my life isn't interesting at all to watch, it would have been cancelled years ago.

[-] cRazi_man@europe.pub 2 points 3 days ago

Imagine if they raised a person from a baby in a Truman show type of environment and he turned out to organically become the most racist sexist angry and unpleasant piece of shit.

[-] cepelinas@sopuli.xyz 1 points 3 days ago

People probably would still watch, but I am not sure.

If I'd be honest, probably the first thing that I would feel is embarrassment, thinking that the thousand time plus that I beat the meat would look like the movie Shame from 2011

Where’s my love interest? Why is everything setup to be so shitty in terms of geopolitics and the economy and such? And finally, the viewers better be laughing at my jokes at least.

[-] southsamurai@sh.itjust.works 9 points 3 days ago

Well, anyone watching would already know I'm fucked in the head. So I doubt they'd be surprised when I went on a killing spree for having been violated like that

[-] MsPenguinette@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago

I'll be so excited to get compensation

[-] tacosanonymous@mander.xyz 10 points 4 days ago

I’d feel really bad for the actors they made me watch die. I'd also wonder how they got the cameras to follow me across the world (twice) without me noticing.

[-] southsamurai@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 days ago

What? You think the nanobot drones disguised as vaccines are new thing?

[-] davel@lemmy.ml 9 points 3 days ago

Ceiling cam is watching you masturbate.

The government knows...

It's crazy to think this was 10 years ago

[-] DonkeyStar@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

It would be, anyway. I have one for review and improvement.

[-] ByteMe@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago

I'd be like "who the f made it like this and who the f watches that"

I don't think the Morisetteian irony of watching a movie that's equally fucked up in its premise as you found out your life is would move the needle much. The rug would've been pulled out from under you and this wouldn't cause more than a wry bored smile a couple of weeks later when the shock has subsided a bit.

We are living it. Right now. Each and every one of us with a phone in our pocket. Except we don't have paid actors doing the work. Everyone is volunteering to post everything that goes on in our world around us and broadcast it.

"The man held the brightest star in the sky one morning. Then just went to work."

If I found out today I was in a show, I'd do everything in my power to end the lives of everyone tangentially involved. It would mean my life was already meaningless, so there's no risk in throwing it away.

When the world shits on your neck, go out hard

[-] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 4 days ago

I'd wonder what happened to the writers since the writers strike in 2007. It's like they gave up

I was raised religious. I always felt that if there really was a God, I existed solely to be a subject of cruel comedy for it. I think if I found out I was being Truman Show-ed, I’d immediately feel vindicated. Then I’d feel incredibly nihilistic and let’s just say I wouldn’t bother trying to escape or let the show continue.

I've always felt like the best lies have at least two layers. You think you've seen through something and can feel satisfied about it, so now you can stop looking. Otoh there weren't people with "Truman Show psychosis" before that movie and there were after, so maybe it wouldn't have been the best choice.

[-] mitrosus@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 3 days ago

I used to have same imagination in childhood. Interesting thought, and wish it would be so. At least that would explain why everything is turning dark....
