Darknet Diaries is such a great podcast.

It would work just as well if the icons were flipped. Would that come across better?

I can see the implicit sexism of implying the girl is the less informed. But I've also got a problem with gate keeping in the community. Someone might say they are focusing on privacy and use incognito chrome, but they're ideologically still on your "team"....they're just a bit behind in their journey and need to find out more about working their way up to making the real meaningful changes. Help em out.

Why is this something widespread? I did chemistry up till A-levels and no one ever asked me to memorise the periodic table and no one gave a shit about committing it to memory. WTF is going on.

I'm using Calibre web to organise books, convert format and download metadata; and then use Kavita to read my books/comics. Works great.

Same with music. And video games. And writing books (self-publish to Amazon for pay-per-read). Content creation technology/platforms are very readily available now.

There's more good stuff to find than ever. It's just that it's hard to find. There's too much volume of content out there to sift through, and mainstream tastes have changed so it isn't as easy to find since the stuff that's popular really isn't your taste. You likely liked the stuff that's was popular back then. Look harder. Find the niche like-minded communities. Look for content related to what you already like. There are tons of new good movies, games, music, etc out now and you just need to find it. Even for news you can find the sources you like and filter out toxicity.

You brought this upon her! I hope you're ashamed of yourself.

My organisation has fired a bunch of people and plans to replace them completely with AI. They're pushing us to use it. Soon it will be mandatory to use ambient, always on AI for all information recording. There's mention of working areas AI camera surveillance to monitor for efficient use of man hours (don't know whether the tech is developed enough for this or how practical this is). The guy working above me is doing some sort of degree in implementation of AI in business and his answer to a lot of problems is "AI could probably do that for us". Meanwhile we get training to tell us that we will personally be held accountable for any errors in the AI output we use, and we will be held responsible if we input any information that was would be deemed confidential or sensitive. BTW, copilot is already activated for all our work outlook, calendar and one drive accounts and has all that data; so not sure what would be considered more sensitive information to give.

Real as in "are they sword fighting to the death?" - no

Real as in "have they come together in person to take a picture?" - likely yes

I was having trouble with access to my work remote desktop from home. Each time I was told the issue was fixed, I went home and it didn't work again.

So, I used my work PC to use remote desktop on my home server, and use that to remote access the work remote desktop again. Managed to troubleshoot the problem and complete the steps I needed to do on site to get this working.

I'm new to self hosting and am really enjoying having access to my home services. I chuckled at remote desktop inception, but it's been really helpful in solving my problem.

And when I get bored of Hollow Knight, I pick up Gran Turismo 4 and Slay the Spire.

There are lots of good FOSS options.

I would strongly recommend checking this site for the trackers in an app if you're at all concerned about privacy. Links to each app's exodus privacy report is also at the end of the table linked above.

FYI, Nova has been owned by a data mining company for many years and it is worth moving away from even if you think it is good enough now and doesn't need updates.

Last year I identified a workplace poop toilet for myself. It's in the next building over. It's a single toilet. A men's toilet. It's outside a large office in which only women work. So this toilet is always unused. Always clean. Always private. If I (rarely ever) need to poop at work, this is where I go.

Today I was on my way and a work acquaintance intercepted me. Every turn I took, he seemed to be going the same way and was telling me about his mother's fractured hip along the way. I had to walk twice as far beyond where I intended and finally shook him with a bogus excuse for needing to go to some unrelated department; and then had to check around corners while I double back.

I've made it though. Just wanted to update you all about this while I'm on the throne.
