I support the idea of a federated employment platform. However I see no reason for an employment platform to have social features.
I have only received jobs for the last 10 years via social features. I hate it, I don't enjoy it, but networking and people skills are the way to a good network. I started blogging and recruiters started pinging me regularly. It has a place
Thats great, you can network and have people skills on social media and link from there to your professional bio. There's no reason for them to be in the same place.
Except, I don't want those people in my regular circles on my regular accounts, I keep work and personal separate. I'd prefer to have a separate account, just like this that's linked to my professional life. This fills that need for me
So create a separate account. There's no reason it needs to be on a dedicated platform.

The harm is filling a professional website with a bunch of noisy nonsense no one cares about. I don't need to see your federated OnlyFans profile when I'm looking for an employee.
Don't subscribe to users from there then, and even then doesn't sound like this would be federated?

Yes? I don't understand the point you're trying to make now. CVs, skills, etc sound specific to this so they wouldn't be federated. Social features like posts, replies, comments would be, as they match ActivityPub, they're not extending the protocol or anything for it.
So I really don't understand why you're so upset at the app. If you don't want the professional stuff then it's as simple as not signing up for an account. If you don't want any social things from them then it's the same as any activitypub: defederate or block.
You don't like it, I think that's obvious, but I don't understand the multi-comment thread where your argument seems to be "I don't like it so it shouldn't exist". You don't have to understand why other people find it useful for it to be useful to those other people.

The point is professional platforms should not be filled with whatever whims come across your mind that day. It is a 100% completely redundant function, in the wrong place.

I don't understand why you think I'm upset. You seem to be equating the number of comments I write with some sort of level of anger. In which case, I must ask why you're so upset? I just think it's dumb.
Yes you are very passionate if you've left so many comments about this, which is why I go back to my base question - why not just ignore it then if you find no use out of it?

I know we love to hate on LinkedIn, but honestly there are plenty of reasons to want social features about employers and jobs. Reviews, salary discussions, union organization and all such stuff that employees could leverage against employers, for instance.
Of course that's not what LinkedIn is largely used for because it's full of employers trying to brand themselves or influencers trying to make an image for themselves. But it could be different, I think.

These are all things that could be designated to one or the other, as appropriate. There's no reason they need to be in the same place and every reason not to.

I think these things should be separate.
I feel like that's an unnecessarily narrow view of what the fediverse can be. The fediverse is not only for any single particular social networking use case, like micro-blogging (Mastodon) or forums (Lemmy, Pyfed etc). It can be much more than that, and all of it at the same time. There's no reason why the fediverse should restrict itself to only certain social media use cases.
The fediverse is already broken up across way too many usecases, such that I have to have a profile for videos, a profile for podcasts, a profile for my blog, a profile for communities, etc. etc. and they want to add another one.
Right? In what way does it help anything? Only makes things worse.
Honestly though I feel like a federated linked in has the same problem as a federated dating site..., or really even federated facebook style social media etc...
Federation can work for something like lemmy, in that we can be useful in spite of a lack of userbase compared to the corporate version. 200 people scattered around the world to talk about linux, or open source works.
Trying to find someone close enough to you to date, or looking for a specialized employee or a close enough to work on site employee on the other hand, is a hell of a stretch.
Look, I really want LinkedIn to disappear. But please, please, please don't focus on building/porting another "platform" to ActivityPub. A client application that can interact with C2S servers would be a thousand more times more interesting, for users and companies alike.
ActivityPub already has an API. Let's just use it.
....but how does that help me create a blog post demonstrating I can make a thing in order to get hired? If I just use mostly the thing that already exists and just intelligently hook up a smaller more minimally scoped software to it then it doesn't really help me get a job..?
Of course it does. You just need to change your resume to say you are looking for a software architect position. Chances are you are going to end making even more money.

Funny as I wanted to recommend bizzFed today. I finally pulled the recommendation due to rather ungoverned AI use.
I cannot asses whether vutuv is really better in that regard, but at a first glimpse Wintermeyer's AI workflow seems to be more sophisticated.

So cool.... but looking at the rest of the comments I might just be a little naive. Yet it is worth at least checking out.
So there's 2 of them, bizzfed and this? I wonder if they choose the same entities as AP actors etc and work together in a good way.
Love it, I've signed up, awesome work with import from LinkedIn feature seems really handy for users!
