“Looks like Wildberries is transferring their inventory to the cloud.” 🤭

I'm amazed they haven't filed for bankruptcy yet. No insurance will cover this and surely they can't just shrug off loosing all this infrastructure and product.

[-] Mika@piefed.ca 11 points 1 day ago

They don't take any responsibilities for the products in this case. It surely hurts them but it hurts small businesses even more. That's has even more irreversible damage potential.

They also sell their own merchandise but yeah, the 3rd party losses are gonna be bad. The only parts of the Russian economy that didn't shrink last year were military and related, so it's probably going to hit a whole bunch of people who were kinda fucked already.

So 11 of 25. How many of 25 do you think before bankruptcy? My guess 14.

Come on just need 1 5 and 8 in flames for an I shape

Am I correct in my understanding that Ukraine is targeting Wildberries because they were distributing parts used to manufacturer drones for warfare? And that these are all warehouses, not (directly) related to manufacturing?

[-] ManixT@lemmy.world 6 points 17 hours ago

That might be part of it, but they're one of the largest debtors in russia, with billions owes to banks.

Their bankruptcy will cause a cascading effect with banks failing. Classic case of "if I owe the bank a thousand dollars, that's my problem, if I owe them a million, that's their problem". There are already signs that russian banks are facing insolvency issues.

They had a massive segment of military goods for sale. Everything from drone supplies to body armor. So they are actively engaged in supporting the Russians invasion.

These are also massive warehouse hubs for the distribution of all sorts of goods. Like a large Amazon warehouse. Destroying them is an absolutely massive hit to the Russian economy with minimal risk of civilian casualties.

Had?

They sell all kinds of wares that help murder Ukrainians.

Russians signing up for the military need to get their own equipment since quite some time.

Same with Wildberries competitor Ozon:

[-] nymnympseudonym@piefed.social 5 points 23 hours ago

I do wonder why Ozon is not also getting hammered.

Finish WB first, then Ozon?

[-] woelkchen@lemmy.world 2 points 17 hours ago

I think they are but so far to a lesser extend. I only know the name because it was mentioned in one of the attack reports.

[-] ChairmanMeow@programming.dev 15 points 1 day ago

They also distributed general military gear you could purchase from them. But yes this is logistics being hit, not manufacturing.

[-] Jajcus@sh.itjust.works 4 points 17 hours ago

Manufacturing is probably in China...

[-] woelkchen@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

They also distributed general military gear

Still do. That's why they're still a legitimate target.

[-] ChairmanMeow@programming.dev 5 points 1 day ago

Well not from those bombed warehouses they don't, those kinda burned down after all.

[-] gegil@sopuli.xyz 6 points 1 day ago

Ukraine is targeting the weak points of russia, the parts which will deal the most damage to economy. Wilberries happens to be one of this points as majority of russians are using it for buying products, and manufacturers use it to sell products. It is a huge multi-billion logistics company, which when destroyed will cause irreparble damage to economy. Yesterday it was oil refineries, today wilberries, tomorrow something else.

[-] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

They had a Special Military Operation section where anyone could ship your favorite pre-ground meat some helmets or whatever.

[-] ivan@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago

With drone parts it’d be more effective to hit where they’re coming from if that’s domestic production.

So in my understanding it’s an economic damage measure - warehouses for a marketplace where businesses sell all kinds of stuff. And since it’s the biggest one like that in Russia - it hurts them a lot, which is nice.

[-] woelkchen@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

my understanding it’s an economic damage measure

They literally sell military gear. To this day.

[-] ivan@piefed.social 2 points 15 hours ago

Oh. Makes those guys crying on camera that their business was destroyed along with some warehouse look even dumber now.

[-] FaceDeer@fedia.io 8 points 1 day ago

That's a bingo!

[-] supersquirrel@sopuli.xyz 5 points 1 day ago

Just need #8 for second Bingo!

[-] Rose@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago

What's the source? Why is Crimea listed as being "in Russia"?

[-] LaFinlandia@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 day ago

I'm assuming the list was expanded but the label wasn't updated.

[-] Rose@lemmy.zip 2 points 8 hours ago

It's extremely strange, as it also lists Stalingrad, a name that no longer exists.
