My first game on an Atari was E.T. I wonder how they'll turn that into a movie?

Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie (2014)

They'll probably start by scrounging around a landfill in search of treasure buried decades ago.

This music video beat them to the punch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Rt_3_bQVJU

Sometimes it’s best to work backwards. Picture this, a giant landfill full of game cartridges….

They're all really thin. But Pong? Seriously? What?

They wanted a something challenging when it came time to... *ahem* ...bounce some ideas around.

[-] IWW4@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 week ago

Yeah it is mind boggling anyone would buy the rights to any of them.

You don’t want to learn the backstory of the dot?

[-] WesternInfidels@feddit.online 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

The dot's backstory is a heartwarming myth perpetuated by Big Paddle

[-] Doubleohdonut@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago

It's just the clip from Silent Movie with Marty Feldman and Dom DeLuis playing on the Studio Chief's health monitor. Perfection lol

[-] ApollosArrow@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

They can follow the Squid Game path and have it be barely related to the plot.

[-] WhoIzDisIz@lemmy.today 5 points 1 week ago

Is Millipede gonna be the sequel to Centipede, just like in the arcade?

[-] IWW4@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

Lol I guess.

[-] Kobibi@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago

It's hard to imagine that any of these have enough name recognition or nostalgia to automatically do well, like Mario or Sonic

[-] IWW4@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 week ago

I know and there no story to any of them.

[-] eestileib@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 week ago

This is so stupid holy crap

The only one I'm remotely curious about is Missile Command because I think that has the opportunity to actually tell a real and deep story about how everyone inevitably loses in the game of war.

[-] Davel23@fedia.io 5 points 1 week ago

I mean, that's pretty much Wargames (1983).

[-] III@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Wargames (2026)

..same movie, reaches the climax where the computer is evaluating every resulting scenario from Global Thermonuclear War. Suddenly, before completing the evaluation, the computer stops. David realizes he has run out of tokens. Nuclear weapons from across the globe shoot into the sky. Fade to bright white.

[-] misk@piefed.social 6 points 1 week ago

Yikes, that’s a new level of creatively bankrupt.

I would actually love to see an adaptation of Asteroids. You have a lot of options.

  1. A ship/station’s automated defense system fails, so humans have to use manual targeting to fend off a rock storm as the structure sustains more and more damage.

  2. Mining operation goes bad, with or without aliens/microbes.

  3. Rockbusters clearing a shipping lane encounter aliens, but nobody believes the first guy to see them because they just did a quick drive-by.

…and many more!

Finally! I get to see who Yars was and what they were so upset about!

And who pong was and why they never returned my calls...

I feel like the only ones on there that might be interesting in some way would be Adventure, Berserk, and Yar's Revenge. Maybe there could be something to Centipede/Millipede if they use the original art as inspiration. But honestly I feel like that might end up as a horror film.

Atari recently made story-driven games based on Pong (Pong Quest) and Missile Command (Missile Command Delta). I wonder if this is a coincidence, or if they were created specifically to lay the foundation for films based on them.
