Today's game is some more Assassin's Creed. I did the mission where you assassinate William of Montferrat. Gotta say, most of the assassinations in this game have been mediocre, but somehow this one nudged it's way in as one of my favorites of recent memory. It felt like a very solid Assassination Mission. Sneak into the fortress, find the target, get out. My one wish was it was easier to pull of air assassinations. Apparently it is possible, but it's difficult to pull off from everything i hear.

I do feel like the enemy detection in this game is bullshit though. I was trying to scale down. And there definitely wasn't anyone who could see me, and yet somehow an enemy would start to notice me anytime i so much as grabbed the ledge.

I am kind of starting to get tired of all these investigations though. They all boil down too: Do objective, get plot exposition, repeat 3 more times. It kind of dulls the experience.

This one was kind of fun though because i stunk locked the guy into a corner and beat the shit out of him. I do feel bad though because Altair always kills the guys.

Anyways, i presume i'm coming up on the ending soon. It's a shame i know how it goes. I feel like the twist would hit a lot harder if i went in blind years ago. Regardless i am excited though. And i'm even more excited to get to 2. I've never played it so I'm really excited to try it out. I'm open to modding the experience to making it better so if there's any suggestions i'd love to hear them.

Ah yes, the golden era of Assassin's Creed. These games are not very moddable unfortunately. That said, Eagle Patch is good for controller support and the parkour overhaul mods for 1-Rev look fun, but I've never tested them myself since they use cheat engine and I couldn't get them to work on Linux

I did eagle patch for 1, definitely planning that for AC 2 as well. I might not touch the parkour mods though. I tried cheat engine for 1 in an exercise to make a free cam (I wanted to make a psuedo photo mode for myself), but just couldn't get it to launch.

This was a great demo for AC2. But a little too long for a demo, should have been just one city.

The Ezio Trilogy is definitely the best of AC. I never really got into the others. Just not the same vibe and atmosphere.

the first one is definitely rough. i really liked the story beats but it is the clunkiest of the bunch. 2 and its spinoffs are all excellent though, the levels really shine in those. try out the tourist mode too.

The combat was where i struggled the most, especially the segments where it throws you into combat with like 10 enemies. Towards the end there were like 3 of these sections back to back and it was tiring. I did like the story though. Altair especially gained a few points with me

yeah forced encounters are always ass. and nice that you liked altaïr! he's never coming back.

Hm, I have no ideas about mods for 2, unfortunately. I only played it once, and that was back in the day. I remember absolutely loving it, and I've been hesitant to go back because I don't want to sully my memory of it.

And my backlog is too long to be replaying games, anyway.

That how I thought until I got a non-gamer girlfriend and have found great joy in sharing the games that brought me joy. She's slowly transitioning into a bit more of a gamer and we get to play games I always wanted to check out from past ages or revisit old favorites. We're a little over halfway through Uncharted 3, when we finish that series (new to me as well) we'll return to Assassins creed, which I loved back in the day.

That sounds lovely! If I ever get a partner (and they're a non-gamer that is open to getting into gaming) then that sounds like a delightful thing to do together.

Its been quite fun, the secret has been letting her play as much as she wants and being the backup if there's a difficulty spike on easy that she struggles with. I feel like I understand my older brothers perspectives on gaming with me growing up a bit more now.
