Yes. Women are also required, but there is an alternative community service for them. Some minor ethnic groups are exempted from the requirement, but for the vast majority it is mandatory.
Its 2 years 8 months for men, 2 years for women. Having been in the IDF as an citizen from birth is a point about someone's circumstances rather than their character.
However that man was in the IDF for 5 years, so he did volunteer beyond the conscription requirement.
All this is according to wikipedia I am no expert.
