OTOH this is how I find out about fun new single player games (my favorite type of game) since all of my friends are more unemployed than I am and find the good shit before me.

This is me 15 minutes before refunding a game due to compatibility issues on Proton.

[-] NOPper@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 1 week ago

I haven't found too many of those over the years. Lucky me I guess?

[-] binarytobis@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

I haven’t run into one at all yet. Either proton got better before I switched, or I’m lucky.

[-] otacon239@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

I’ve been eternally cursed by the “it should just work”, especially in the world of Linux. For every game that launches fine with no support listed, there’s another that lists Steam Deck compatibility and I can’t even make it to the loading screen.

I’ve tried half a dozen OSs with Proton over the years at this point and every time I turn the corner after explaining my setup, someone whips around telling me my entire setup was never going to work in the first place and I should have been using this stack instead.

I’m just tired, so usually, I’ll put about 30 minutes of effort of trying random bullshit from ProtonDB before realizing my time is worth more than troubleshooting a video game.

[-] BremboTheFourth@piefed.ca 8 points 1 week ago

Really? Damn, I can't remember the last time I tried launching a Steam game and it didn't work. What are you trying to play?

[-] otacon239@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Most recent example was Horizon 6. 4 and 5 run without a hitch and the world looked really promising. Made it over the first crest of a hill and crashed every time. Tons of missing textures in the 7 seconds of gameplay I got to see.

I refunded it and got 007 instead and I think I’m having more fun with that than I would have with Horizon anyway.

[-] JohnWorks@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago

Yeah horizon is a weird one I've heard for some it's completely broken and some works totally fine.

[-] SnotFlickerman 6 points 1 week ago

Me with RAGE

[-] jballs@sh.itjust.works 20 points 1 week ago

In Joe's defense, Balatro is fucking dope

[-] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

Yes. The point is more that balatro is a lot easier to run.

Except when you are trying to go NaNeInf

[-] jballs@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

I've only hit Ante 13 so far. I've got a looong way to go!

[-] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 14 points 1 week ago

I've got this one friend and he plays Skyrim three or four times a day for less than ten minutes.

Strangest thing.

[-] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 17 points 1 week ago

Porn mods and a short fuse.

[-] Sabata11792@ani.social 10 points 1 week ago

My friend called me out doing this with Rimworld. The mod list must grow.

It ain't got no gas in it.

[-] CaptDust@sh.itjust.works 45 points 1 week ago

I go invisible specifically to not annoy people while I dick around with launch options :3

[-] 9point6@lemmy.world 46 points 1 week ago

You turn invisible off?

I see what my profile looks like sometimes ("last online 150 days ago") and quickly toggle it just so people don't think I cuddled a moving bus or something

cuddled a moving bus

got a chuckle out of me, thanks for that one.

I simply don't have friends.

[-] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 week ago

I go invisible because I legit don't remember who any of my steam friends are IRL and I just don't want to delete them.

[-] SnotFlickerman 38 points 1 week ago
[-] FinjaminPoach@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago

The pain of steam is that i love grinding at achievements to show them off to people but i don't like playing videogames with people so i don't really have anyone to see or appreciate my achievments. But then again, i'm doing it for myself 😄

[-] remotedev@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 week ago

I have my wife, and my brother in law that I play with. And then one guy that played space engineers with us and helped us build a big ass ship and then his friends logged on so he left us

[-] SnotFlickerman 15 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)
[-] RickyRigatoni@piefed.zip 6 points 1 week ago

I also game with that guy's wife.

[-] toynbee@piefed.social 1 points 1 week ago

That's a classic reference and among my favorites.

[-] sirimeow@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago

I turned off those notifications years ago when someone was apparently messing around with a game for a few days. Was getting spammed so much lol

[-] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 12 points 1 week ago

I set myself to invisible at all times. My friends can message me if they want to do shit but they don't need to know my status at all times. Too many motherfuckers messaging me the instant I appear online.

[-] sirimeow@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

I do the same. It's nice to not broadcast what you're doing all the time

[-] Agent641@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I wish I had some steam friends so this meme would be relatable

[-] iocase@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

I'll friend you on steam if you want

[-] Agent641@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago

Sure, this is my profile: https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197997169822 I think my steam username is Guy Montag

[-] GhostFace@lemmy.today 10 points 1 week ago

At least I know I'm not that person. I don't like being stalked so I keep invisible on always.

[-] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

yelling “You gotta prime it!”

[-] TheEighthDoctor@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 week ago

It's especially cool when it's your coworkers during the workday and they are not answering your messages.

[-] Screen_Shatter@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Ive already logged off my friends list because I'm kind of embarrassed I cant get this damn game to work properly and need to restart again.

[-] einlander@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

It's more like a domestic argument. You know they are fighting with each other and maybe trying to change things, but it's not working out. And you just don't want to get involved or reminded.

[-] trainsrkool@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 week ago

Excuse me I dont come here to be personally attacked like this!

[-] Widdershins@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

How does the Deck factor in here? Does it ping my friends I'm playing the same game every time I take it out of sleep?

[-] hansolo@lemmy.today 2 points 1 week ago

Y'all have normalized a surveillance state so hard.
