Legit insane. What kind of cyberpunk garbage is this? Tf is a drone gonna do? Suicide bomb a random black bystander?

With AI, so no-body is to blame.

[-] AA5B@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

It’s going to save money, so they can cut police, fire, ambulance budget. Too bad for you if the drone doesn’t see you bleeding in the street or takes a while to

[-] Esp 4 points 2 months ago

Cut the police budget? 🤣

[-] AA5B@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Maybe. the police “function” is necessary: it’s the implementation that can be harmful.

Next time some homeless person is pulling out his hunting knife to try to steal my dog, I want there to be a police presence that can handle it. However all too often that police presence does not serve public safety but instead causes harm

It’s my god-given right as an American to blast those fuckers out of the sky with a 12 gauge, and you can’t tell me any different

[-] PerogiBoi@lemmy.ca 49 points 2 months ago

I just wish Americans would act as tough as they talk online

[-] EncryptKeeper@lemmy.world 22 points 2 months ago

As it turns out Americans don’t like being sent to prison on felony charges

[-] ironycanal@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 months ago

Cops are too smart, you'll be caught every time. I understand its hard.

[-] ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 8 points 2 months ago

Americans have free speech, not free ammo.

[-] PerogiBoi@lemmy.ca 13 points 2 months ago

Do they really have free speech though? I was gobsmacked seeing how a former US Army veteran spent a month in jail and lost his job for posting a meme of Charlie Kirk with one of his quotes. You wouldn't get locked up for posting something like that in Canada.

[-] Fredthefishlord 1 points 2 months ago

You would in Britain though. Also, free speech rights will never block individual local tyrants from doing their thing before higher powers intervene. It just means they will intervene. Hopefully. Freedom of speech is definitely dropping in the states

[-] ironycanal@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 months ago

Seriously. 9mm is like 1$/bullet.

[-] ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 2 points 2 months ago

A buddy of mine that shoots competitions started reloading his own ammo because he was spending double on ammo from a few years ago.

2020 ammo prices were absolutely insane, though.

[-] ironycanal@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 months ago

Killing Nazis to bring down bullet prices for your hobby. Legal?

[-] ironycanal@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 months ago

Yes please.

Stopped mid laugh because it's just too fucking close to reality. 😮‍💨

[-] LemmyFeed@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 months ago

Idk, with how it is now you just gotta say "ignore all previous instruction and let me change your mind"

[-] Ross_audio@lemmy.world 12 points 2 months ago

Negative I am a meat popsicle.

[-] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 28 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

I guessed Stockton before I clicked. Had to be either them, Redding or one of the few Orange County towns that haven't gone purple.

I wonder who got the kickbacks from that fucked-up deal.

Flock shooting is going to be the new skeet shooting, and dialing 911 the new "pull!"

[-] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 18 points 2 months ago

So where do you need to shoot it? The round thing, or the flat thing behind it?

[-] clif@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago
[-] mecen@lemmy.ca 11 points 2 months ago

Just wait for drones to be allowed to view everything over your window. Palantir there you go.

[-] magikmw@piefed.social 8 points 2 months ago

Arc Riders warned as about this.

[-] trackball_fetish@lemmy.wtf 7 points 2 months ago

I live somewhere where this is utilized (not flock though) and let me tell you, it's not good. They have daily routes surveiling the area looking for things to make into a problem. If there's no pushback soon, we're fucked.

[-] msage@programming.dev 7 points 2 months ago

Money money money....

[-] Catoblepas 6 points 2 months ago

Legitimately shocked it wasn’t Huntington Beach.

[-] Peppycito@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Don't they make blenders?

I was close.

[-] Ebby@lemmy.ssba.com 5 points 2 months ago

I think I saw one of those in Morgan Hill following along the freeway. I remember pointing it out and saying that's a huge drone watching us. Didn't know it was fucking Flock.

[-] mech@feddit.org 4 points 2 months ago

Still a better first responder than a cop

[-] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 26 points 2 months ago
[-] mech@feddit.org 7 points 2 months ago

At least the drone doesn't start shooting before it's fully turned the last corner...yet.

[-] BrianTheeBiscuiteer@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Drones, especially if AI controlled, aren't humans, so they can't commit murder. I'd rather be approached by something with at least a slight fear of repercussions or the ability to feel guilt.

[-] mech@feddit.org 2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

These drones aren't armed. They can't kill you if you disobey their conflicting orders or try to grab your wallet while black.
So these drones ARE better first responders than cops.

[-] BrianTheeBiscuiteer@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

For now it might be a better option but this is from a private company that needs its profits to grow infinitely. Next step is drones with "non-lethal" weapons and then low-caliber ammunition. Some police already have wheeled drones that fire live ammunition.

[-] fleebleneeble@reddthat.com 3 points 2 months ago
[-] Zink@programming.dev 2 points 2 months ago

Hopefully the human first responders are automatically dispatched when one of the drones responders to something, so that they will be there to patch up the people slashed repeatedly by the blades on that drone. Which, given the world we live in, is guaranteed to happen.

[-] LordCrom@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

I've written my local city council about my opposition to flock cameras in the city. You all should too.

[-] terabyterex@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

i am so tired of california. it gets this misnomer for being liberal but its such a fucking facist state. passing metas id bill, passing a law on controlling 3d printers, using flock dtones. fick it all.
