For the love of fuck, we're using apostrophes to conjugate verbs now too?

[-] smeg@feddit.uk 38 points 1 month ago

Can't even blame this one on autocorrect, we've gone full apostrophe means "here comes an s"

When a rogue 'see's any enemy who's low on HP after killing two mob's

Fixed the original post's typos

I use the apostrophe whenever I'm too lazy to type the proper letter. Like:

''''' ''''' '''' ''' ''

''''' ''''' ''' ''' ''''

''''' ''''' ''' '''''' ''' '''''' '''

BRO! Language! You kiss your mother with that mouth?

[-] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

You have to protect your letter's from those dangerou's terminal esse's!

[-] x00z@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

In some languages you use an apostrophe for pluralization in some cases. But even that doesn't make sense for the one in the OP.

[-] iamthetot@piefed.ca 3 points 1 month ago

What languages use an apostrophe for plurals?

[-] x00z@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Dutch for example.

spoiler

They said language, not dialect. Swamp German doesn't count

[-] iamthetot@piefed.ca 3 points 1 month ago

Interesting. From a quick look, seems like it only applies to some borrowed words, nothing native to the language?

[-] x00z@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Mhm, I can only think of loan words yes.

[-] teft@piefed.social 3 points 1 month ago

A lot of people aren’t native speakers and also this is an easy error to make even for native speakers.

Really? "See's"?

[-] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

I'm pretty sure non native speakers wouldn't make this mistake.

[-] festnt@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago

i've heard native speakers are actually more prone to misusing apostrophes because they learned the sounds before writing, while non natives learn both at the same time

[-] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 3 points 1 month ago

It's not a mistake native speakers would make unintentionally but I absolutely understand the ESL problems and, full disclosure, still have to remind myself about the rules for possessives.

It looks wrong and the system is wrong I will not apologize for or be bound by the failures of dead dudes

Hey, give the guy a break, cult leaders aren't known for their grammar.

(Check OP's username)

[-] CultLeader4Hire@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Who ever made this it seems like

[-] fushuan 28 points 1 month ago

Can you censor that first apostrophe with a white marker pls? <3

[-] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 1 month ago

Task unsuccessfully completed:

[-] festnt@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 month ago

now add an apostrophe to mob's

[-] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 month ago
[-] festnt@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago

that's a weird looking apo'strophe

[-] Crozekiel@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 month ago

I love that the meme basically has double meaning if you know what is about to happen in the scene the image is from vs if you don't.

spoilerThat car in the background is about to run into him hard, flinging his milk and cereal all over his car. Basically, he is about to get fucked up.

[-] GiveOver@feddit.uk 2 points 1 month ago

It's his fault for eating cereal though

[-] Crozekiel@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 month ago
