These "bet on anything" sites know people with insider info cheat, and don't care.

[-] frank@sopuli.xyz 56 points 1 day ago

The people running the sites take a cut from the other people getting richer.

The real question is who the fuck is betting against that? What a weirdly degenerate thing to bet on without insider info

[-] PanGodofPanic 10 points 1 day ago

Maybe there's people indirectly bribing trump&co by putting in bets against it ahead of time?

[-] tacosanonymous@mander.xyz 15 points 1 day ago

It certainly is heinous. I’m assuming a bunch of people had running bets that Iran wouldn’t be bombed inside a certain time period.

[-] stinerman@feddit.online 30 points 1 day ago

The crazier thing is that other bettors know people with inside info are cheating and don't care.

[-] Diurnambule@jlai.lu 6 points 1 day ago

Thé Guy above ypu made a good argument, that a great way to bribe making it look like a bet.

Oh ya because pulling off a bribe right now is a real operation.

[-] Diurnambule@jlai.lu 3 points 1 day ago

I dunno, is there only one action allowed at the same time ? I mean the world isn't linear, things can happen at the same time.

[-] Alwaysnownevernotme@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Sure you could just hand him a gold sword on international tv.

But what if we...

[-] Diurnambule@jlai.lu 1 points 1 day ago

I dont' understand what you are saying. Is it some kind of North American reference ?

[-] Alwaysnownevernotme@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

They.

Don't.

Prosecute.

Bribery.

[-] Diurnambule@jlai.lu 2 points 1 day ago

Ha yeah for high profile guys. Like president but it's people may know that they have no cover and trump would throw them under the bis without pity.

[-] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

meh. I'd posit this is a bunch of folks on the edges seeing what's happening, seeing the grift factory that the admin is, and getting in themselves on a lil something before the whole thing crashes to earth.

[-] Diurnambule@jlai.lu 1 points 1 day ago

Yeah good theory too. The strange thing is someone betting against a strike in Iran. Do people bet constantly on things like that ?

[-] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

dunno. I don't understand these markets. perhaps there is a market for people who vote against things happening writ-large - like, i bet tomorrow godzilla won't attack, anyone taking?

it's beyond me. as is the vast majority of gambling, which I've seen first hand wreck lives and destroy families. ordinary, sensible people, computer nerds and engineers even, suddenly thinking they have some way of making money off some insight.

I fundamentally do not understand any of it. There are certainly grifters and rubes tho.

[-] Diurnambule@jlai.lu 1 points 22 hours ago

Same I don't get gambling...

[-] Ilovethebomb@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

Oh, they would definitely care, it's costing them money after all.

[-] jack_of_sandwich@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 20 hours ago

If they cared, they'd stop betting.

insider trading about inside trading?

[-] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago

It's insider trading all the way down

[-] Modern_medicine_isnt@lemmy.world 2 points 20 hours ago

As they say in poker, if you can't spot the fish at the table, it's you.

[-] thingAmaBob@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I mean, I’m sure there’s insider betting and all, but I don’t think you need inside information to predict the USA will bomb a school in Iran…

edit: gotta capitalize

[-] InvalidName2@lemmy.zip 27 points 1 day ago

WRONG WRONG WRONG

There are laws and enforcement, but only for working class people and well-off Democrats.

[-] stinerman@feddit.online 59 points 1 day ago

The only winning move is not to play.

[-] Tempus_Fugit@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago
[-] stinerman@feddit.online 28 points 1 day ago

This is just like gambling on sports when you know that the players are also betting. It's insane.

[-] Tempus_Fugit@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago

I'd say it is much worse than that, but an apt analogy.

[-] idyllic@leminal.space 4 points 1 day ago

It is much worse - the fucking players already know the outcome for a particular play.

[-] 13igTyme@piefed.social 4 points 1 day ago

Would you like to play a game?

[-] A7thStone@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

How about a nice game of chess.

[-] Bababasti@feddit.org 2 points 1 day ago

I bet I’d lose that game of chess.

[-] thenextguy@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

The house always wins.

[-] IntrovertTurtle@lemmy.zip 1 points 20 hours ago
[-] needanke@feddit.org 3 points 19 hours ago

You can't tell me what to do!

[-] Jhex@lemmy.world 31 points 1 day ago

LOL... the orange pedophile rapist is taking open bribes with his eCoin and other scams...

Betting based on classified intelligence is like coffee money

[-] Skua@kbin.earth 10 points 1 day ago

These are probably him giving bribes to others, right? He gets to essentially anonymously give someone money without having to actually spend any of his own money

[-] Jhex@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

No, he took Billions from people who had to know there was no economic value to his eCoin.

All that money went directly to trump... now they get whatever they asked for

I think skua is saying that trump can give someone the classified intelligence and then the person can make the bet and collect the winnings without trump having to pay them himself.

[-] Skua@kbin.earth 5 points 1 day ago

Exactly this, yes

[-] Mulligrubs@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Regardless of the bet, there are ALWAYS insiders... at the least the house.

The house always wins

This also applies to the stock market, USAs favorite casino

Who's "the house" for the stock market? The FED

About 4-5 hours (IIRC) before, the massive drop-off in bar activity around the pentagon made it obvious something was happening imo. But not sure what evidence was 6 hours before (bar activity was normal at the time I think).

[-] stylusmobilus@aussie.zone 7 points 1 day ago

Sounds like Americans to me

Surprised they don’t do this with their school shooters

[-] Star 6 points 1 day ago

Can we like... Sue, over this? This has to be illegal, right?

I get that I sound like a whiny nerd saying 'BuT ThEy Can'T DO tHaT!' But let's be honest legality is this administration's weakpoint

[-] filcuk@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

They aren't supposed to, but many do anyway. It's all rotten through and through

[-] khannie@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Got to prove it first and unfortunately I think that would be very difficult without more to cause a proper investigation.

[-] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

Can I place a bet that we'll find proof of this? And a parlay bet that nothing will come of it?

monitor things that the us gov has control over for large sudden bets

copy those bets

money
