She's not even looking where she's pointing and yet she's got her finger on the trigger.

Weapons handling score 0/10

[-] BenVimes@lemmy.ca 37 points 3 weeks ago

Also her wrist is bent, which is something that makes me unreasonably angry whenever I see it, whether in real life or in movies/TV.

GOP Keynote speakers for this violent stunt.

[-] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 63 points 3 weeks ago

Been saying it for years now:

Perfect hypocrites.

Anyone left at this point is a full-on cultist, fully subsumed into the hivemind.

[-] btsax@reddthat.com 60 points 3 weeks ago

I wish the internet would get over its collective obsession with pointing out conservative double standards. They don't care that they have double standards. In fact its a power move to show that they're above whatever petty moral code everyone else has tied themselves to

[-] freshcow@lemmy.world 25 points 3 weeks ago

You're correct, of course. But there are still a certain amount of Republican voters who like to pretend they have principles. Then there are also so-called centrists and politically disengaged folks. Sometimes they need to be reminded exactly who these charlatans are, so there can be no excuse for confusing one side of the political spectrum with the other.

[-] Karjalan@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah, I came to the same understanding when I used to counter conspiracy nuts denying climate change and evolution etc.

You'll never convince them they're wrong or hypocrites... But people who stumble upon the thread that are not super critical thinkers will see the discussion and you can help them realise the person is actually full of shit.

Sometimes they can lie believably enough that people fall for it, and some of those people will snap out of it when they see the contradiction and logical fallacies.

[-] MiddleAgesModem@lemmy.world 10 points 3 weeks ago

They've beaten you into submission.

[-] btsax@reddthat.com 7 points 3 weeks ago

I'm not beaten, I'm suggesting alternate strategy

[-] Nalivai@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

You specifically, explicitly, didn't do that

[-] zalgotext@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 weeks ago

What alternate strategy?

To be clear, I think I mostly agree with you, that certain people are entrenched and merely pointing out hypocrisy does nothing to change their ways of thinking. What other options are there?

Fucking classic

[-] HumanOnEarth@lemmy.ca 46 points 3 weeks ago

Yes we all know. Umfortunately the hypocrisy is completely invisible to them, so posts like this are a circlejerk at best.

[-] criss_cross@lemmy.world 17 points 3 weeks ago

It’s good to remind others not in the loop why the propaganda is nuts.

But yeah you’re not convincing MAGA losers of this. How an event makes them feel is more important than the facts and consistency it represents.

[-] endless_nameless@lemmy.world 33 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

When will people realize that republicans do not support the first (edit: SECOND, lmao, but yeah first too) amendment? They support use of force to further their agenda. That's it. Making gun ownership out to be a right wing thing is such a gigantic fuckup.

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 11 points 3 weeks ago

once fascists get full power, they will attempt to ban it totally throughout the country. mmuch like with russia, last thing putin wants is the populace with firearms.

[-] Th4tGuyII@fedia.io 32 points 3 weeks ago

Trump’s rhetoric was similar to that of Los Angeles-based federal prosecutor Bill Essayli, who tweeted over the weekend that, “If you approach law enforcement with a gun, there is a high likelihood they will be legally justified in shooting you.”

Have they seen the multiple angles of footage of this?

Man had a phone in one hand and the person he was helping up in the other.

Unless he had a third hand somewhere, I struggle to see where the fucking gun was.

They really be taking the old GOP doctrine to psychopathic levels just to own the Libs.

[-] cannedtuna@lemmy.world 34 points 3 weeks ago

They’ll put whatever spin they can on this to justify the actions of their gestapo.

Jon Stewart says it best:

“They’re lying. We saw it. And that’s how brazen they lie when they know we’ve seen the truth. That’s how they lie when they know we know. Imagine how they lie when there’s no evidence to contradict them. And maybe that more than anything was why Alex Pretti reall was a threat. Because he was brandishing a weapon, a handheld aluminum, 1080p, 60 FPS, weapon of mass illumination. Because there is nothing more dangerous to a regime predicated on lies than witnesses who capture the truth.”

[-] iamthetot@piefed.ca 19 points 3 weeks ago

Yes, they have seen the videos. They are lying. They are liars.

Besides which, law enforcement is not legally justified in shooting you damn near no matter what you do. A cop is not a court of law. A cop is not a jury and judge. A cop is not an executioner. Their legal jurisdiction extends to getting you in front of a courtroom and nothing else.

[-] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 9 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

local nazi supporter on my Facebook basically says it's his fault for being stupid because he should have announced that he had a gun when he began interacting with them

I'm sure that that would go over well

edit: anybody willing to approach ICE/CBP and loudly declare that they have a gun on them?

[-] mrbeano@lemmy.zip 12 points 3 weeks ago

Didn't work for Philando Castile, and that was just a road-side interaction with a "standard" cop. Still murdered.

[-] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 18 points 3 weeks ago

Conservatism only holds one position, there should be in-groups that are protected but not bound by law, and out-groups that are not protected but bound by law.

Could never tell if she's twacked out on a lot of adderall or some meth. Probably splitting hairs.

[-] ThunderQueen@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

Well, they are wealthy, so probably adderall. But its basically the same thing

[-] qevlarr@lemmy.world 13 points 3 weeks ago

Loved Jon Stewart this week

[-] sturmblast@lemmy.world 11 points 3 weeks ago

The GOP = scared white snowflakes

[-] john_lemmy@slrpnk.net 9 points 3 weeks ago

She's holding her gun in such a weird way

[-] nomadman@piefed.social 6 points 3 weeks ago

They both are. It's clear they have never fired a weapon before. They might shoot at someone, but they're not hitting anything unless by accident. Which is the likely outcome for these chuckleheads.

They look like the inept culprits of a murder mystery right after they've been discovered and about to make a getaway.

Kyle rittenhouse

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

they view hypocrisy as strength so there's really no point in rehashing this

[-] BillyClark@piefed.social 7 points 3 weeks ago

True, that is actually brandishing, but I don't think anybody really thought that helping a woman off of the ground while never touching or showing off your gun is brandishing.

For conservatives, words don't have meanings anymore. If a word sounds like it might have a negative connotation, then it is a word that they use to describe any opposition. They don't need to bother waiting to see what actually happened. The important thing for conservatives is to say the bad-sounding word first. Nobody has ever held them to account for lying.

[-] ameancow@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago

For conservatives, words don’t have meanings anymore.

They never really did, I think what allowed them to start breaking through out of that prison of social pressure was when we all stopped socializing and connecting. They started finding they could get a form of social support in atomized realms, while the rest of us just said "let them stay over there, we can't ban them all, at least there they're contained."

I really want to ask them back in those early days when they were debating banning forums and subreddits related to sexism and racism, if they think "containment" is different from "empowerment" now.

They basically went to a protest and pointed their guns at people. It's not even these fucks. There are so many more. When I lived in the US, someone in my neighborhood did this.

[-] NannerBanner@literature.cafe 6 points 3 weeks ago

These two are a couple who came outside their home and pointed the weapons you see pictured at a group of protestors marching past said home.

[-] Alfredolin@sopuli.xyz 7 points 3 weeks ago

Thanks for the lmddgtfy link. For anyone curious: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Louis_gun-toting_incident they are a couple which were not happy about George Floyd protests going near their home so their perfectly measured response was to come out with guns. 🤣 Charges have been filed, they pled guilty and in the end got pardoned and their criminal record expunged. Waow.

[-] NannerBanner@literature.cafe 8 points 3 weeks ago

and in the end got pardoned and their criminal record expunged.

Yep. This sort of action is why I'm not confident about any optimistic view of deprogramming the maga cult. They are in enough positions of power to rule us all based on the rule of law. The violations of constitutional rights and flouting court orders is just to throw red meat to the base.
