I have no idea why the fuck people are addicted to that garbage site but I still see people sending me links to it.

[-] merc@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 months ago

It still seems like a lot of bands, brands, sports clubs, even governments haven't left, so people who want to see info from them still stick around. It's pretty ridiculous when your official fire department social media account is on the same site producing deepfakes of nude or nearly nude kids.

[-] timbuck2themoon@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 months ago

That and instant gratification. Heaven forbid you see news 24-48 hours later about some inconsequential topic. Just imagine..

[-] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

That, and people believe FUD, which is usually in the form of overreporting on toxic callouts - yes, I had to block some anti-AI people and their blocklists, but Twitter is still way worse.

Other is that people believe too much in the power of "market demand magic". Remember all those elitist gamers who only want games to be made to the most hardcore ones, who in turn harass women and minorities? It's not just them who are like that. Even progressive Harry Potter fans are still deluding themselves that if they stop funding Johanne Karen Rowling's TERF war chest, she will suddenly become way worse.

Yet others complain that Bluesky and Mastodon are not as addictive as Xitter. It's like claiming salad is bad for you, because it doesn't provide cocaine-like addiction.

I’m proud to say I have never twittered a tweet in my twatting life

[-] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 10 points 3 months ago

I have. But back then it didn’t have vowels and you had to text the website to post.

[-] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 7 points 3 months ago

You weren't missing much, it was basically "I'm in popular group" said a thousand different ways.

[-] binarytobis@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

I made an account just to know when PAX tickets went on sale, but I still feel dirty.

[-] cardamon@leminal.space 30 points 3 months ago

do i get a medal for never having been there in the first place?

[-] Rooster326@programming.dev 11 points 3 months ago
[-] cardamon@leminal.space 7 points 3 months ago

thanks!! 🫶😇

[-] dejected_warp_core@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago

Is there a club? Can I join?

I saw the original 140 character limit and thought: "I need to be able to write things that amuse, explain, or matter. That's nowhere near enough." Sure, "brevity is the essence of wit" but that's too brief and I'm not that witty.

[-] kali_fornication@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

"I need five whole paragraphs to tell a joke."

-You

[-] A7thStone@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

It looks like they managed it in only one paragraph.

[-] MimicJar@lemmy.world 26 points 3 months ago

Since it's clear shame isn't working I'll happily congratulate anywho leaves Twitter in 2026. Late to the party is better than never.

[-] Blue_Morpho@lemmy.world 25 points 3 months ago

Every day, my Google news feed has at least one news story that's a link to X. I often accidentally click but close and tell Google to block the news source as soon as I notice it's X.

Many are science and environmental news outlets. I don't care. If they post to X, I tell Google to block them from my feed.

[-] Johnmannesca@lemmy.world 39 points 3 months ago

Easy solution to this is to stop using Google news feed.

[-] ScoffingLizard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 3 months ago

Install NextDNS and block the domain. Also, block whatever you want. It's awesome.

[-] baggachipz@sh.itjust.works 19 points 3 months ago

To leave the nazi bar, one needs only to walk out the door. There are other non-Nazi bars right nearby.

[-] cheesybuddha@lemmy.world 8 points 3 months ago

And remember if there's a bar full of 19 Nazis plus you... it's a bar full of 20 Nazis.

[-] bossito@lemmy.world 9 points 3 months ago

At this point is fair to assume Twitter users are either Nazis, pedophiles or both.

[-] HatchetHaro@pawb.social 9 points 3 months ago

well, the chinese furry artists are still there, and man are those people kinky.

[-] cheesybuddha@lemmy.world 9 points 3 months ago

Honestly, anyone who still uses Twitter after the recent news has demonstrated that they are OK with CSAM, and should be treated as such.

[-] cheesybuddha@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

If my like to dislike ratio is any indicate, about 12.5% of Lemmy users need to be on a list.

[-] FlyingCircus@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

“Anyone I disagree with belongs on a list.” — literally this guy

[-] cheesybuddha@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Yes, anyone who disagrees with me that Child Porn should not be publicly available should be under serious scrutiny

[-] FlyingCircus@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

You’re saying that 100% of your downvotes are on comments saying that CP should be widely available?

I might be confused.

[-] cheesybuddha@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Go read the comment you replied to again, that should clear things up.

Then maybe go outside and take a walk or something.

[-] Fedizen@lemmy.world 8 points 3 months ago

Pretty much everyone still on twitter is a pedo who sees the CP as a perk.

[-] forkDestroyer@infosec.pub 7 points 3 months ago

I'd recommend leaving Twitter without actually leaving. As in: clear out your entire profile of data, change your pfp icon/banner accordingly, and change your bio to something supporting the call to leave.

Social media sites do well because, when people leave, the feed fills in around them and mutuals no longer know they're gone. For added impact, set up an automated message saying why you've left and where to found you, or something else to that extent.

[-] Fedizen@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

I also think twitter is now doing the facebook thing and replacing lost users with AI bots to maintain stats. Hollowing out the account and replacing posts with nonsense is probably a way better idea than deleting the account since it will poison the AI.

[-] forkDestroyer@infosec.pub 2 points 3 months ago

These are basically my thoughts.

I won't fault anyone for deleting their presence on social media, but if the goal is to disrupt the platform and perhaps start a movement for others to leave, leaving by itself won't help.

Connections on social media aren't as solid as they are in real life: they're feed-based. Your loss will be drowned out by the feed.

It's embarrassing that you are still there keep your humiliation fetish to yourself

[-] nowwhernews@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago

I can't believe how many people are still using it and consider the "main place".

Playing. Twitter is a turn-based, text-based fighting MMOBA.

[-] Suavevillain@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago

I deleted mines yesterday. I was on there for wrestling twitter. I can't stay on there anymore with people trying to debate the concept of consent and the AI chatbot stuff.

[-] webghost0101@sopuli.xyz 4 points 3 months ago

Vague memory of that one time i needed a twitter account for some reason years ago and then never used/forgot about it

Oh no

[-] ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

I take pride in never having been there in the first place. Hell I've even avoided any links that would take me there.

[-] thorhop@sopuli.xyz 3 points 3 months ago

That's what I did to Reddit.

[-] u_u@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 3 months ago

For the artists/fanartists to be honest. Most of them hate Musk and X too but stay for their friends/followers. I have an account just to follow them and other fans. Also ironically many of my local grassroot environmental/humanitarian movements are active in Twitter so that's where I got my breaking news.

[-] Petter1@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 3 months ago

Artists went to bluesky fast, didn’t they?

[-] u_u@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 3 months ago

Some of them yeah, especially English-speaking. I mostly follow Korean and Japanese fanartist and both have their own blog/social media they often use in tandem with Twitter (e.g. Pixiv, Postype, Misskey, etc)

[-] Soulg@ani.social 2 points 3 months ago

Not all of them.

(I've never had a Twitter I am not saying that I'm still using it because I've never used it)

[-] evol@lemmy.today 3 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

I don't really like microblogging sites but from my brief time using them, both bsky and mastodon feel like... gentrified? X has more insane people which makes it fun, Also 99% of people will never use a non-algo driven social media site even if it means supporting Adolf Hitler himself

[-] Fedizen@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

How's the CP on the pedo site?

[-] evol@lemmy.today 2 points 3 months ago

The iOS app dosen't let you view any NSFW content so can't report on that

[-] boaratio@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

Making CSAM with Grok?

[-] Aceticon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Exactly.

Anybody still there has been complicit with Fascism for years and loudly saying "I'm leaving X" now isn't the Taking A Moral Stand some want to pass it as.

[-] Olhonestjim@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

I had a job that made me sign up like 15 years ago. Never figured out what it was good for.

[-] titanicx@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 months ago

Wait, they handed out medals for leaving? I left the week nazilon took over.
