And I wouldn't have it any other way. I appreciate how lemmy is just a simple link aggregator.

I do top -> 6 hours it keeps it fresher

[-] Fmstrat@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

My problem is rhe slow burners dont make it in, meaning you miss many current events. I now use Top Week because "You didn't hear about ...?!?"

[-] curbstickle@anarchist.nexus 18 points 2 days ago

Top 6 for all, new for subscribed, works for me.

[-] hakase@lemmy.zip 11 points 2 days ago

Top 12 first thing in the morning, top 6 after 2pm, hot after that; new for subscribed.

I'm jealous of you having enough suscribed comms

[-] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 2 days ago

Hot keeps showing me month old posts

[-] hakase@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 days ago

Weird - hot practically always shows me stuff <2 hours old.

[-] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 days ago

I've set lemmy to automatically hide read posts, so since it hides those for me, it tends to show whatever it can find.

I do the same except for when I wake up. At that time I go top of 12 hrs, mainly to help keep me up-to-date on what happened in other time zones (usually the US lol) when I was asleep

[-] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago

I set Voyager to auto-hide on read. Top 24hrs has more content than I can read in a day that way.

🫡 Salute the people who use new and upvote all the quality stuff so the reast of us can use top day

[-] SlurpingPus@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Imgur users on ‘new’ once ran an experiment for a day where they upvoted basically anything — in practice, oddest and weirdest stuff bubbled up. I've never seen such entertaining feed before or after.

[-] gerald_eliasweb@reddthat.com 2 points 2 days ago

Accidentily shared that to the group chat. Thats going to get taken out of context.

Rumor has it, if you say "a algorithm" three times, Hazel has a aneurysm.

IMO the bad grammar adds to the quality of this meme.

You didn’t have to do this

[-] GreyEyedGhost@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

I appreciate both of you.

I only use top when I just discovered a fresh community. Hot is where it's at

[-] WhiteOakBayou@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Hot All is the only way for me. Keeps it fresher longer.

[-] lazynooblet@lazysoci.al 10 points 2 days ago

What's wrong with top day sort?

[-] gerald_eliasweb@reddthat.com 7 points 2 days ago

The same three people who have alot of followers always end up at the top.

[-] bdonvr@thelemmy.club 9 points 2 days ago
[-] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Yes...have you not been managing your duchies!?

[-] lazynooblet@lazysoci.al 2 points 2 days ago

I expect the algorithm is simple. Posts with the most votes are selected. There are more complex algorithms that perform weighting on various metrics, but then the "algorithm" becomes a black box, and accusations of it being manipulated will surface. Votes can be manipulated, but they are public, so they can be scrutinized.

At my home I have The Algorithm.

web view, the only good way to browse social media

[-] anton 2 points 1 day ago

Sure, let me make a web request when the user presses the back button. Can't see anything wrong with making the user wait every time.
