This has been the core of Apple's business since day one. They have been making their products so that you have to buy accessories, add-ons, replacement parts only from them, nothing else is compatible.
So once you own one or two of their products, you are locked in to buying more from them, or have to replace everything, not just your phone. They are total assholes for such a business model, but hopefully the EU will change that
