Chicago teachers said they’re dealing with traumatized students in underfunded schools — while the Trump administration spends millions to militarize American cities.

For the last month, the Trump administration has kept Chicago under siege. Customs and Border Protection agents arrested a 15-year-old U.S. citizen earlier this week after unleashing tear gas into a crowded residential neighborhood. Earlier in October, masked federal agents raided a five-story apartment building in a predominantly Black neighborhood of Chicago and zip-tied naked children as they dragged their parents away.

The Trump administration claims that Chicago is unsafe and needs order, despite the fact that the city experienced its lowest homicide rate in 60 years this summer. But instead of investing in underfunded schools or attempting to eradicate poverty, which have been shown to increase public safety, the administration is pouring millions into the militarization of American cities and fighting a court battle to federalize the National Guard in Chicago.

Is this the same school that's been getting caught in crossfire between protesters and the ICE offices literally next door?

It seems like ICE was determined to put their offices in all the worst possible locations. Like, they had to know there would be protests, right?

In Rhode Island they put it between a social services office and a taqueria.

This shit had to be intentional, to inflict the most fear.

You know what they call someone who uses fear to deliver a political message? A fucking terrorist.

[-] Juice@midwest.social 10 points 4 months ago

We are the terrorists now, for caring about people's suffering.

[-] dustyData@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago

It is intentional, it's an age old tactic to terrorize communities. It is taught by special forces all over the world. There's a reason it is a war crime in armed conflict contexts.

The republicans don’t just fuck children, they also fuck up children.

Then crickets until 14 and then pass around to all our rich friends for sex! The Republican workflow.

Every time, from now until the end of time, that someone tells me the Democratic leadership is “just as bad” I’m going to remind them who tear gassed a bunch of elementary school students.

I repeatedly ask how many Venezuelans that Kamala has murdered.

The tankies-in-disguise really don't like being confronted with simple facts.

You talking about that lady who spent half her campaign courting the approval of Dick Cheney and demanding that we send more munitions to slaughter innocent children in Gaza, and in doing so cleared a path to victory for Trump to have a second term?

[-] village604@adultswim.fan 1 points 4 months ago

I think it was the whole rigging the election thing that paved the path to Trump's victory.

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 4 months ago

she is laughing too much, that is enough for them.

[-] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 10 points 4 months ago

These people being monsters doesn't translate into Democrats being the "good guys" or entitled to power. They've both been at the helm this entire time as our country has fallen into a dystopian nightmare and they both share the blame.

[-] frmrm@peachpie.theatl.social 2 points 4 months ago

Agree that there is plenty of fault to go around.

[-] thepompe@ttrpg.network 7 points 4 months ago

Cool.

It's important that you people support the two-pronged strategy.

Ready for Clinton 5.0 in 2028.

Technically still a step up from where we were with republicans 60 years ago. Kent state is a high bar.

[-] valek879@sh.itjust.works 6 points 4 months ago

Low bar. Kent State is a low bar. Not openly murdering students protesting them is a low bar that so far the trump admin is managing to jump.

But I do wonder how many students have been kidnapped and died while ICE calls us terrorists for having the gall to be angry that they're terrorizing our country.

I heard somewhere recently that tear gas can cause impotence. If that's true, it's even more fucked to do that near a school.

Edit: Yup, there's a link between the two

[-] prole 9 points 4 months ago

RFK Jr did say he was thinking a lot about children's sperm.

I wish that wasn't real because I really hated typing it.

[-] FerretyFever0@fedia.io 8 points 4 months ago

So it might even be a eugenics thing?

[-] balance8873@lemmy.myserv.one 1 points 4 months ago

No, that would obviously require these guys believe in science, let alone in the concept of impotence not being the woman's fault

[-] FerretyFever0@fedia.io 1 points 4 months ago

Ah, you see, they don't believe in science. But they do believe in "science".

[-] balance8873@lemmy.myserv.one 2 points 4 months ago

Ah yeah the rhino pills, you right

[-] NutWrench@lemmy.ml 27 points 4 months ago

The only ones terrorizing Chicago is ICE.

[-] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 22 points 4 months ago

Those kids were probably all pot heads and resisting arrest like the antifa shadow agents they are.

Maria Heavener had opened the windows of her first-grade classroom to let in the unusually warm October breeze when the sound of helicopters, sirens, and a flood of notifications compelled her to slam them shut. During a raid on a nearby grocery store, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents had hurled tear gas canisters into a parking lot across the street from Chicago’s Funston Elementary School, spreading a thick, choking smog toward the building while class was in session.

[-] Eddbopkins@lemmy.world 19 points 4 months ago

Wow ICE has made a place of peace and learning into a hostile work environment. I wouldn't go back to that school to work ever again. The trump administration is making peaceful places of work and education into hellish landscapes of gas and terror.

[-] Jumbie@lemmy.zip 20 points 4 months ago

Uhuh. You think they won’t be happy that public schooling fails?

[-] village604@adultswim.fan 13 points 4 months ago

It's literally one of their goals

[-] MarxWuzRight@lemmy.world 14 points 4 months ago
