Here is the video of him being racist and very cocky for someone getting a DUI. Starts at 18:46 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZtVUG6l780

It really makes me think of the Reno 911 skit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D6VQDNIZH7U

Time for that guy to go be a Sheriff’s Deputy in another state.

[-] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago

He’s already in Florida.

Well, I guess there’s Texas.

[-] d00phy@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

He could go anywhere. There’s racist deputies in every state, I bet.

[-] tatterdemalion@programming.dev 9 points 4 days ago

His bitch wife Deborah is definitely getting the kids after this.

[-] bagsy@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago

This is such a sensationalist framing of this incident.

Don't get me wrong, Its a great video. I watched the whole thing last night and this guy is a real piece of shit all around. It was great watching him go down, but focusing on one sentence in a thirty minute video just to put racism in the headline is dirty journalism.

We could hear that the officer had a thick Haitian accent before this guy made his remark, and there isn't a negative tone when he asks, he could have been trying to build a connection with this guy to talk his way out of the ticket. The other officer shut down the whole topic quickly and the drunk didn't bring it up again.

The guy probably is racist as hell, but I don't think there's condemning evidence of that in this video.

[-] jandro@lemmy.world 29 points 4 days ago

When he asks if he's Haitian and the other cop says it doesn't matter, doesn't the DUI guy say "yes it does"? That definitely seems like a negative tone and racially profiling to me, why would it matter if he's Haitian?

[-] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

I forgot about the second statement if that's how it played out.

Just seems to me like the big story was him being drunk with his kids in the car and trying to get out of it by playing the LEO Get out of jail free card.

Despite whoever interprets this as defending racism (which it absolutely isn't) I still think it's a predatory click bait headline looking for reaction traffic.

The big story is that this racist scum think he is above the law just because he is an ice(thug) agent

THE POLICE PROBLEM

3943 readers

The police problem is that police are policed by the police. Cops are accountable only to other cops, which is no accountability at all.

99.9999% of police brutality, corruption, and misconduct is never investigated, never punished, never makes the news, so it's not on this page.

When cops are caught breaking the law, they're investigated by other cops. Details are kept quiet, the officers' names are withheld from public knowledge, and what info is eventually released is only what police choose to release — often nothing at all.

When police are fired — which is all too rare — they leave with 'law enforcement experience' and can easily find work in another police department nearby. It's called "Wandering Cops."

When police testify under oath, they lie so frequently that cops themselves have a joking term for it: "testilying." Yet it's almost unheard of for police to be punished or prosecuted for perjury.

Cops can and do get away with lawlessness, because cops protect other cops. If they don't, they aren't cops for long.

The legal doctrine of "qualified immunity" renders police officers invulnerable to lawsuits for almost anything they do. In practice, getting past 'qualified immunity' is so unlikely, it makes headlines when it happens.

All this is a path to a police state.

In a free society, police must always be under serious and skeptical public oversight, with non-cops and non-cronies in charge, issuing genuine punishment when warranted.

Police who break the law must be prosecuted like anyone else, promptly fired if guilty, and barred from ever working in law-enforcement again.

    That's the solution.

Our definition of ‘cops’ is broad, and includes prison guards, probation officers, shitty DAs and judges, etc — anyone who has the authority to fuck over people’s lives, with minimal or no oversight.

RULES

Real-life decorum is expected. Please don't say things only a child or a jackass would say in person.

If you're here to support the police, you're trolling. Please exercise your right to remain silent.

Saying ~~cops~~ ANYONE should be killed lowers the IQ in any conversation. They're about killing people; we're not.

Please don't dox or post calls for harassment, vigilantism, tar & feather attacks, etc.

Please also abide by the instance rules.
