"MagicTheGathering turns on Trump..."

[-] krooklochurm@lemmy.ca 17 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

I play Epstein's island and tap that and three swamps to create three child tokens which I sacrifice to Donald Trump: child rapist giving it +3+0 and unblockable by white creatures until end of turn, and then I tap one blue mana to use Donald Trump: Child rapist's ability above the law, which gives Donald Trump: child rapist flying until end of turn, and if an opponent takes damage from Donald Trump: Child Rapist, create one child token for each damage caused by Donald Trump: child rapist. I swing for three. You take three damage. Pass the turn.

This is hilarious until you realise there is nothing Hasbro won't franchise

[-] devolution@lemmy.world 20 points 6 days ago

Night of long knives? MTG will be the first because she is not toting the line of Der Fuhrer, despite her being an awful person who deserves to be in the 9th layer of hell.

[-] Scotty_Trees@lemmy.world 11 points 6 days ago

I'll be honest, MTG hasn't been relevant for years, could care less about here now. Not going to waste my time on a useless piece of excrement.

[-] fittedsyllabi@lemmy.world 12 points 6 days ago

Release the Epstein Files!

[-] Maeve@kbin.earth 7 points 6 days ago

“Right now this shutdown is a big political fight and drama, but it doesn’t have to be happening,” she told InfoWars. “The Senate can use the nuclear option and override the 60-vote rule. They can pass the CR with a simple majority.”

[-] myfunnyaccountname@lemmy.zip 7 points 6 days ago

“No” - Mike Johnson mumbled with trumps lil Pepe in his mouth

[-] Gammelfisch@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

What the hell did Vlad whisper into her ears?

[-] ShittDickk@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago

I believe she may be one of those conservatives that actually "think" for themselves, she was already so far to the right she probably has no ideas the others are getting paid for their public opinions. Vlad prob figured to just save the payroll.

[-] BranBucket@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago

That'll fix it for sure. I'm positive they take her opinion seriously...

[-] Typhoon@lemmy.ca 9 points 6 days ago

No, but it's better than what she was doing. And hopefully it'll show more Republicans that they can break ranks with MAGA too.

[-] BranBucket@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Granted.

But she's got a huge hole to dig herself out of. Let her start with this and move on to apologizing to the people she baselessly attacked for personal gain,, publicly supporting legislation that helps people, supporting the people who've been hurt by the policies she helped enact, and voting against her party when it'll help her constituents and not just her lobbyists. It's political suicide, but it's the right thing to do.

I'm not convinced she's breaking ranks even. Her career is based around the idea that any attention is good attention. She's been out of the spotlight for a while, and really has nothing to offer the nation orher than a willingness to say whatever egregious bullshit gets the cameras back on her. I don't have a lot of hope that she'll be a bellweather for any trend.

[-] AlexanderTheDead@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

I'm not saying I like her and I'm not saying you're entirely wrong, BUT, she has NOT been out of the spotlight recently. This is only the second (maybe third?) thing that she recently broke rank on. She also just recently called to stop funding Israel.

Edit: oh yeah, 3rd thing was the Epstein Files.

[-] BranBucket@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

It could just be the circles I travel in.

However, I remain doubtful of her having any real impact on national affairs and skeptical of her motivations.

[-] AlexanderTheDead@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

Oh for sure

[-] Lyrl@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 6 days ago

Her call for the Senate to remove the 60 vote requirement, and pass the Republican bill with a simple (all Republican) majority, is not better in my eyes. The headline's implication that she's talking about negotiating with Democrats is hugely misleading, typical of Daily Beast.

[-] Veedem@lemmy.world 192 points 1 week ago

Her arguments are surprisingly valid. Even going as far as complaining that they aren’t passing bills but instead are relying on executive resolutions. It’s a weird time when MTG starts sounding relatively sane.

[-] prole 7 points 6 days ago

Don't fall for it

[-] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 102 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

It’s a weird time when MTG starts sounding relatively sane.

MTG is a classic case of someone who just says what people want to hear in order to get the thing she's after. She's not remotely as stupid as people claim, just absent any real moral compass or sense of shame.

In this case, she's breaking from the GOP because what they're doing is clumsy, unpopular, and generally horrible for her constituents. And since she came up through the social media circuit (where popularity matters) rather than the corporate empty suit circuit (where you just get Pappa Elon to spend $40B on "my opponent fucks shrimp" negative advertisements in a gerrymandered district), she's acting out of self-preservation.

[-] 6stringringer@lemmy.zip 4 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

And desperation. When someone flips that floppy it becomes quite apparent.

[-] markovs_gun@lemmy.world 48 points 1 week ago

I don't actually think that. I have followed her through her entire political career and I truly think that she believes everything she says and does 100%. She was posting insane QAnon shit way before she had a political career, and she has been shockingly consistent on a lot of issues. She has turned on Trump precisely because she isn't just an opportunist whose views depend on which way political winds are blowing. It's like Mitt Romney. The dude is completely terrible and I disagree with him on basically every possible issue but because he has a moral compass, even if it's one I almost completely disagree with, he is at odds with the Trump admin. I believe Rep. Greene is the same. She has some kind of moral code she believes in (even if such moral code is completely stupid and terrible), and so she is necessarily at odds with the Trump admin, which is the embodiment of amorality and selfishness above all else.

[-] very_well_lost@lemmy.world 18 points 6 days ago

Exactly. This is a lady who quit the Catholic Church and was re-baptized as an evangelical just because she was so disgusted by the child sex abuse scandal. This is a hill she's willing to die on — willing to kill on, even.

[-] cmbabul@slrpnk.net 6 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

I grew up in a close enough to her district that my hometown might get gerrymandered into it at some point. This is the correct take, and I say that because of how many women I know from the area that are exactly the same. Not the sharpest tools in the shed, hell I’d say among the dullest, but they believe in protecting children above all else.

I don’t like Greene one bit and generally think she’s a bad person, but she does believe in something, which is more than I can say for Trump who only believes that he should have power

[-] SaraTonin@lemmy.world 13 points 6 days ago

Yes, I agree. I‘ve long said that Greene (and Boebert) are what you get when someone who actually believes this shit gets into power.

I don‘t follow this stuff closely enough to know how this article fits into her history, but the Epstein stuff is completely consistent. And, while I don‘t agree with 99% of her principles, it actually shows her to be more principled than most of Trump‘s followers, who were fully against paedophilia when Pizzagate was a thing, but who now seem to think that it‘s no big deal and that every man would fuck a pre-teen if given the opportunity to do so.

[-] prole 10 points 6 days ago

Boebert was literally pulled from a casting website. She doesn't believe shit.

[-] BrianTheeBiscuiteer@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago

Given the insane positions she's taken over the years I'm guessing she's just jumping ship and hoping she doesn't get ejected in a blue wave or worse.

[-] blave@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

Yeah, when she starts making sense, we’re all in trouble

[-] lemmylommy@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

This truly is the weirdest timeline.

[-] whiwake@lemmy.cafe 17 points 1 week ago

It’s hell. We died in 2020 from Covid. That’s why everything has gotten absurdly worse from that point.

[-] Klear@quokk.au 14 points 1 week ago

Speak for yourself. I died when LHC created a black hole that swallowed Earth.

[-] Glide@lemmy.ca 74 points 1 week ago

You either die a villain or live long enough to see yourself become a hero.

...wait a second.

God, this timeline is fucking weird.

[-] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 37 points 1 week ago

She drank the kool-aid.

This is what you get when you recruit ‘regular’ people into your fascist movement – they buy the bullshit that you’re ’for the people’ and ‘want to make things better for everyone’.

You get people who don’t know those are lies to appease the masses, and think you actually are for those things.

She really doesn’t understand what her party is for, and instead takes it for its facade. And she doesn’t understand this means she’s a circus clown.

[-] PolarKraken@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 6 days ago

Sounds pretty plausible. And in the past when there was decorum, the too-sincere just got quietly sidelined I imagine, wondering why they never seemed to get anywhere despite their loyalty and fervor. But today, when the party communication strategy is explicitly "carnival barker but a mix of vicious lies and middle school insults", welp, those zealots not only avoid being dealt with quietly, they get a platform, cuz they already had one, and it's one that rests on the larger platform where every heinous unsayable thing has already been publicly screeched, and also subsequently forgotten.

I hope she goes nuclear lol, she's gotta have some good dirt right?

[-] MushuChupacabra@lemmy.world 24 points 1 week ago

Out of all the Republicans whose guts i hate, I think that I like MTG the best:

Classier than Lauren Bobert.

Hates Laura Loomer, and would beat the fucking brakes off of her if they got into it.

It's not much, but I'll take it.

[-] prole 2 points 6 days ago

Classier than Lauren Bobert.

Pretty low bar...

And maybe you weren't aware of the shit with the personal trainer?

[-] MushuChupacabra@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

Pretty low bar...And maybe you weren't aware of the shit with the personal trainer?

I haven't. Is that the guy that she was giving a handy to in a public theater?

Oh wait, that was Bobert.

[-] prole 3 points 6 days ago

She had an affair with her physical trainer a while back. I forget the details, and I don't want to spend time reading about her so...
