The president is attempting to keep calm in front of the cameras, but behind the scenes he’s fuming.

Donald Trump is reportedly getting more and more fed up with his administration’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein drama that has consumed headlines for weeks.

Trump is frustrated that the scandal has overshadowed his agenda and dominated the news, two people familiar with his thinking told The Washington Post in a Sunday report.

Nearly a dozen sources close to the situation spoke to the Post about the issue, painting a picture of an administration adrift, lacking a clear strategy and blindsided by the intensity of the backlash—particularly from Trump’s own base. Many officials had reportedly hoped that Americans would move on from the unreleased Epstein files, underestimating the sustained outrage.

it was so avoidable, all he had to do is not rape children.

it isn't so hard, I never raped children and I aint even trying to avoid it. it's crazy how easy it is not to rape children.

[-] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

Trump is the kind of person who doesn't take responsibility for his actions. I don't think it occurs to that sort of person that they could just not do the bad thing. They think they're a victim when punished for doing a bad thing. The idea of just not doing the bad thing never registers as an option.

[-] smokestack@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

I've coincidentally also never raped children, but seeing a child rapist become so incredibly successful, why wouldn't these MAGA retards start raping children? Maybe that's why they're not billionaires, because they don't rape children. It raises some interesting questions.

Just make every question about the files.

Trump: We just passed another bill that'll be great for America.

Press: And how does that bill affect the Epstein files?

Trump: There was a mass shooter in New York.

Press: Do the Epstein files contain info about Epstein talking about mass shootings?

Trump: I'm flying to Russia to suck Putin's dick.

Press: Do the Epstein files indicate that he sucked Putin's dick with you?

[-] figjam@midwest.social 52 points 4 days ago

I guess he should go back in time and not fuck children then.

[-] Montreal_Metro@lemmy.ca 12 points 3 days ago

At this point I doubt MAGA crowd will draw the line at paedophilia. The only thing consistent in their belief is idol worship.

[-] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

The MAGA crowd just wants to see prominent Dems thrown in prison.

TBH it's kind of fucked up that it's taken this long for them to get riled up and for the media to really dig into this. I suspect some prominent republicans and donors are trying to engineer this as a means of replacing trump. I mean, we've known for a while now about Epstein's crimes. We've known about the girls who were trafficked, and for some time authorities have had the list of names. Obviously anyone who committed crimes against children should be prosecuted regardless of their political affiliation. This seems to be being used as a weapon against trump - fine, the fucker has it coming. It's still political skulduggery tho.

[-] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 days ago

Vance has been more active lately. Coincidence?

[-] FreddyNO@lemmy.world 27 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Put the child rapist in prison. He deserves to never see the light of day.

A person guilty of a crime is in rage mode because people wanting to convict that person won't let it go.

Just get rid of the judiciary system them, right? Pedophilia is ok now apparently, so are the rest of Trump his crimes. There should be a new law that says being rich exempts you from the law and being poor and being non-white is a crime. Oh wait, that's what diaper Donny is already working towards. Fucking dystopia we live in. Supporting genocide and apartheid, breaking down the judiciary system, creating an even bigger gap in wealth and power enslaving the general public.

[-] Wolf@lemmy.today 3 points 3 days ago

being rich exempts you from the law and being poor and being non-white is a crime. Oh wait, that’s what diaper Donny is already working towards. Fucking dystopia we live in. Supporting genocide and apartheid, breaking down the judiciary system, creating an even bigger gap in wealth and power enslaving the general public.

With the possible exception of the judiciary system, literally all of that has been true for a long time now.

Even in cases where the rich can't just pay someone off (rare), In the cases where the rich are actually charged (also rare) if the 'punishment' is a fine, it's not really going to inconvenience a rich person. Typically the types of crime the wealthy get away with (Wage Theft, Corporate malfeasance etc) are punished by fines. This is by design.

There are numerous ways the being poor is criminalized, perhaps the worst example are 'vagrancy' laws, where being poor and/or unemployed is literally a crime.

"Non-White" people (with the exception of Asian people) are incarcerated at a much higher rate than white people.

Trump supports genocide, Harris supported genocide, Biden supported genocide, Hillary supported genocide, Obama, Bush Jr, Bill Clinton, Bush Sr, Regan....

The wealth gap has been widening since before I was born, and I'm 51 years old.

We never got rid of slavery. The 13th didn't eliminate slavery. I would even count Wage Slavery as a type of slavery.

Trump isn't some radical departure from 'American' values. Trump is American values turned up to 11.

I would like to think that the Trump administration will wake people up to the fact that the vision of America we were fed as children is a lie. We NEVER treated all people as if they were created equal. As long as Capitalism rules the day the Rich will always be the ruling class. There will always be different rules for them. The workers will always be exploited to make them rich.

The truth is so many people refuse to question the propaganda, that it will take a miracle to wake people up. So many people think if only we had elected the right people things would be different. It's not who we elect, it's the whole damn system that needs to change.

[-] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

May the system come crashing down soon

I read this same thing - almost word for word - at least a dozen times in Trumpworld I. It all still ended up with a coup attempt, corporate news still at the service of republiQans, and half the voters still complete fucking morons.

"two people familiar with his thinking". What a farce. Is there any fact based news anymore?

[-] ameancow@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago

Is there any fact based news anymore?

Nobody reads facts anymore. Nobody even opens an article anymore, people skim headlines because we long-since gave up expecting informative news programming.

I am well-versed in science and technology, but never read mainstream news stories about developments or discoveries because they're complete dogshit. I read an actual news story and my eye twitches and I want to hurl myself off a bridge. I have to de-program friends and acquaintances who are so tuned out of science developments that literally everyone I know believes we've officially discovered life on Mars, contacted aliens, and that there are ancient ruins and pyramids in antarctica, among hosts of other batshit nonsense that spreads from MSNBC and FOX headlines.

So if it's that bad about science, the thing I know something about... what about the things I don't know something about? I have to assume they're just as bad about politics, economics, social issues and even basic news reporting on current events.

This is worse than people believing wrong trivia facts; when people aren't sure what to believe about the world, they start doubting actual science or news and that's how we end up with millions of unnecessary deaths from pandemics or nazis being elected to the highest offices.

[-] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 days ago
[-] ameancow@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

And I didn't even get into the "mermaids" thing that I have nearly lost friendships over.

[-] sturger@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 days ago

When Kellyanne Conway said, "alternate facts" you had to know this was going to be a dark ride.

[-] ameancow@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

We can go back further.

When Reagan's economic policies were described as "trickle down economics" and they didn't get laughed off the political stage and like, cast into the sea, we should have predicted where this was heading. And some smart people did, but nobody listened.

[-] Gates9@sh.itjust.works 51 points 4 days ago

Guys, this is bullshit. He may be slightly annoyed, but he is totally protected, he and his administration have zero concerns about any consequences. They are untouchable. Particularly so due to the fact that both parties and their wealthy benefactors are implicated.

[-] Quacksalber@sh.itjust.works 73 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

What I don't get is why Trump even cares. Clearly his "Grab 'em by the pussy" remark is telling you all you need to know about him and just as clearly, MAGA doesn't care.

Maybe it just really is the fact that his supporters have hyped up all those who are on that list not just as rapists, which they seem to have no problem with, but as the demonspawn in flesh. So Trump isn't concerned that he may be labeled as rapist, as that label didn't stick before, but as incomprehensible evil, or Clinton for short.

[-] anon6789@lemmy.world 45 points 4 days ago

This is my concern once it officially comes out. Like every other silver bullet we've had, people will think this is what finally takes him down, but once he says "She told me she was 18!" they'll be all "That happens to me all the time too! Damn lying women!" and that will be the last we hear about it unless they use it against Democrats. I can't honestly believe anyone would be shocked his name was on the list.

I think that in a lot of ways, it’s less about the Epstein files, and more about how deeply complicit in the elite culture that he claimed to be in opposition against.

Epstein is just an acceptable outlet among his base to air their uncertainty and unease they’re feeling. Because his ties with Epstein have been well publicized and well known about for a while, but from a right wing populist perspective, that was kind of written off and discredited because it didn’t fit the feeling, the “vibe”, that he was upsetting and visibly angering elites and thus he must be acting against their interests in some meaningful way, now though, it’s very clear he’s cosying up to the tech elite and taking huge obvious bribes from other elite groups and actually gutting social programs they use everyday, rather than that just being a threat made by the “woke” media they don’t trust.

So suddenly the Epstein being associated with him is believable to right wing populists because of how visibly elite aligned he’s being from their perspective.

When is this piece of shit going to get what's coming to him, where is the justice in the world, how can you live your whole life like a complete asshole and be rewarded for it? This has to be a fucking simulation because all my life I've been basically told just be a good, kind person and everything will work out and then people like this fucking asshole come along and just fuck everything up for everyone with his unquenchable greed and lust. Aliens if you're listening just fucking nuke the planet we've had a good run.

WHY DO I HAVE TO WORK AT BEHAVING PROFESSIONALLY IN PROFESSIONAL SITUATIONS BUT THIS FUCK GETS TO BE PRESIDENT, A JOB THAT SHOULD REQUIRE A HIGH DEGREE OF PROFESSIONALISM!!!

[-] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 22 points 4 days ago

I mean I'm glad that something is sticking in the news cycle...

Trump and the Republicans are ruining the economy while also exploding the deficit, kidnapping random people and smuggling them to random third countries. He's preparing to silence dissent toward him in the media, on the street. He's also set up and filling inhumane concentration camps. He's done very little this month to end wars as he promised he'd do in a day, and really just inflamed tensions with Iran with a unilateral strike.
