Just realized there will come a day (probably already has) where people can't hear this image.

[-] LostXOR@fedia.io 31 points 1 month ago

I can't, what is it supposed to sound like?

The Internet used to be better

[-] Landless2029@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

Before money ruined it all.

[-] Scubus@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 month ago

... you thought harlem shake was better?

[-] MystikIncarnate@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 month ago

IMO, not specifically Harlem shake, no, but Harlem shake was a product of the Internet in its prime.

IDK if that makes any sense

[-] PrettyFlyForAFatGuy@feddit.uk 5 points 1 month ago

Ah. Takes me back to Sixth Form this does

[-] davidgro@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

I can't read that without imagining a very extended boss fight.

[-] PrettyFlyForAFatGuy@feddit.uk 3 points 1 month ago

unfortunately sixth form is much more boring than that

[-] oftheair 1 points 1 month ago

Hmmm, ours was pretty violent, sadly.

[-] VerilyFemme 3 points 1 month ago

Yeah when I said the day had probably already arrived, I wasn't prepared to face that cold reality

[-] Stamets@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Nor I, dearest user... nor I...

[-] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 month ago

Blippy’s Harlem shake was the best one

[-] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 7 points 1 month ago

[-] FundMECFSResearch 2 points 1 month ago

Well I’m functionally deaf, sooo…

[-] lowered_lifted 53 points 1 month ago

ahh I can't believe people are nostalgic for the Harlem shake lol

[-] VerilyFemme 18 points 1 month ago

I'm going to be saying the same about Skibidi Toilet in 10 years.

[-] MystikIncarnate@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 month ago

I'm not even sure what that means. I'm familiar with Harlem shake, but skibidi toilet?

The Internet is a weird place. I love it here.

Oh. Gmod brain rot.

There's an interesting underlying message that I'm not sure is intentional, but yeah. Bunch of skibidi toilet "fun times" against the monitoring state engaged in war.

To me that says the only place where you're unmonitored in on the shitter, which is accurate given how much of a walled Garden we, the "adults" put together for kids doing remote learning by locked down Chromebooks during COVID. Seems like the youth putting these together were expressing their frustration with basically having no freedom to express themselves or even explore and have fun during the lockdown because of all the restrictions in place; not just the restrictions related to COVID, but all of the restrictions that parents and teachers had the opportunity to enforce very strictly partly due to COVID lockdowns.

It's a fascinating artistic statement from a pre-AI "art" era of only a few years ago.

10/10. Would skibidi again.

[-] VerilyFemme 2 points 1 month ago

The further you get into it, the more intentional it is.

Excellent analysis, by the way. Goes to show that art will be art no matter how much us geezers disapprove.

[-] Natanox@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 1 month ago

Wait until people come up with other, older things to be nostalgic about. Like Shoop da Whoop or Ronald McDonald Insanity. Peak 2000's internet brainrot.

[-] MystikIncarnate@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago

I'M A CHARGIN' MAH LAZAR!

[-] VerilyFemme 1 points 1 month ago

Ah come on, I've been nostalgic for JibJab for years!

[-] stringere@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago
