The military doesn't like airspace violations much...

Doesn't really matter which country.

[-] BastingChemina@slrpnk.net 33 points 1 year ago

It happened to a friend (with a pilot license I precise).

He was flying a small two seat aircraft and got contacted through the radio and for asked if he was ok to do a exercice with military aircraft.

He agreed so soon after two fighter jet arrived on his left and right. To be able to fly at the same speed as him they were almost standing vertically. They directed him for a bit without any radio contact, then thanked him through the radio and left.

They were doing a exercise to direct someone with no radio contact.

Even if I knew the jets were exercising, I'd still be making diamonds.

[-] Zikeji@programming.dev 4 points 1 year ago

I feel like this is the type of thing where as a passenger you'd be having the time of your life but the pilot? Shaved 10 years off lol.

[-] intelati@programming.dev 1 points 1 year ago

It's kind of like driving beside a Police car. but the car is worth $1million easy.. (Assuming F-16s or trainers.)

[-] limelight79@lemm.ee 8 points 1 year ago

I'm reminded of Mathias Rust. The guy is very lucky he wasn't shot down.

[-] Darkassassin07@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 year ago

Holy shit. Yeah, he's incredibly lucky to not be a pink mist. Still did 14months of a 4 year sentence in a labour camp though.

[-] jasondj@ttrpg.network 83 points 1 year ago

You ever see those “Speed limit enforced by aircraft” signs? That’s the guy you gotta worry about.

[-] lugal@sopuli.xyz 22 points 1 year ago

That's what "©" means. In most states you are by natural law not allowed to be faster than the speed of light

[-] boonhet@lemm.ee 14 points 1 year ago
[-] lugal@sopuli.xyz 12 points 1 year ago

I don't know of any where it's allowed but I didn't want to generalize since generalizations are always wrong. Always.

[-] jasondj@ttrpg.network 7 points 1 year ago

Physics is full of woke librul propaganda like “conservation of energy”.

In my state we obey the laws of alchemy.

[-] droans@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Some states haven't adopted the most recent version of the laws of physics.

[-] Gestrid@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 year ago

That version's kinda glitchy, TBH. It's better they don't update until it's been patched a bit more.

I never actually understood those. Do they actually have, like… a drone? Is it snapping a photo? How’s it all work?

[-] Gork@lemm.ee 11 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

So you'll occasionally see two white lines perpendicular to the road at a set internal. A helicopter, drone, or plane can time when a car passes both of these lines and can calculate the average speed of the car.

This info is then relayed to a police car on the ground who then pulls over the driver.

[-] moistclump@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Why is that better than the police officer who was going to pull them over just using a speed gun?

[-] Gork@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

shrugs

Less likely to be noticed by drivers or alerts like on Waze. Probably a bit more costly though if they're using helicopters or planes instead of drones.

I drive through areas like this all the time for years. I have never heard of anyone actually getting a ticket from this.

[-] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 58 points 1 year ago

what are they going to do pull you over

Yes. With missiles.

[-] STUPIDVIPGUY@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago

in reality I think ATC will just wait 2 hours for you to run out of fuel and notify the local police for wherever you land

if you're headed towards the pentagon though they'll probably shoot you down

Me when I launch my paddleboard without my permit. Who's gonna stop me? The water cops? (Yes, yes they will 😞)

[-] Ilovethebomb@lemmy.ml 25 points 1 year ago

Where do you live that you need a permit to paddleboard?

[-] MataVatnik@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago

PA, as with kayaks I need a launch permit for the lakes and rivers.

[-] Ilovethebomb@lemmy.ml 17 points 1 year ago

Good grief.

[-] krellor@kbin.social 10 points 1 year ago

I don't know where op is from but a lot of states, especially in the western US require invasive species tags on any craft over a certain length, like 10 ft. Some also require state registration decals. Idaho is an example of one that takes the invasive species decals and water craft checkpoints very seriously.

[-] bobs_monkey@lemm.ee 7 points 1 year ago

Certain locales in CA are pretty big on it too. My local lake is huge on the decontamination thing and require certification on even small kayaks. They also like money too.

[-] BackOnMyBS@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

yep. got a warning once for not having purchased a permit on my paddle board.

[-] youstolemyname@lemmy.world 51 points 1 year ago

What goes up most come down

[-] affiliate@lemmy.world 24 points 1 year ago

depends on how far up you go

[-] brianorca@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

Depends on how ~~far up~~ fast you go. Reaching space doesn't mean you can stay there. You need orbital velocity.

[-] affiliate@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

if i’m half a light year from earth i’m not going to be falling back down

[-] HikingVet@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 1 year ago

You probably have different problems that far out.

[-] pastermil@sh.itjust.works 41 points 1 year ago

That thing is not gonna fly forever!

[-] SternburgExport@feddit.de 28 points 1 year ago

Not with that mindset

[-] son_named_bort@lemmy.world 20 points 1 year ago

That's why I drink and fly. Who's ever heard of a FUI?

[-] SirAramis@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 year ago

It's called a crash and burn

[-] shhhitwasntme@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 1 year ago

Well...

The first hint that something was amiss early Wednesday at the Westchester County Airport was the erratic motion of the low-flying Cessna. Confirmation came moments later when security workers approached the aircraft and beer cans fell out of the cabin as the pilot opened the door.

[-] kingludd@lemmy.basedcount.com 17 points 1 year ago

I mean, it's legal under faa part 103...

[-] 30p87@feddit.de 3 points 1 year ago

You aren't even allowed to fly a drone over 250g without a license in Germany, what the heck are you doing in America lol

[-] kingludd@lemmy.basedcount.com 2 points 1 year ago

Eagle flag moonshine gun flag eagle

[-] Afrazzle@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 year ago

All fun and games until tower gives you a number to call.

[-] ramjambamalam@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 year ago

They'll shootcha down.
