If you think about it that's bound to happen. The staple of rpg is growth for your character and because there's combat obviously that means power. How do you prove your growth other than overcoming powerful foes and what's more powerful than God?
Oblivion start though: "the fucking world is ending and the emperor is dead!!!!! You better go travel interdimensionally to fight Demons and solve a puzzle before stealing a magic rock. Now go tell a virgin he's gonna die unless he comes with you to the mountains."
Skyrim start: "choppa yo heada-aaaaahhhhhhhhhh fukkn dragons!!!!!"
Not in my game.
Session 1: Almost die in a sudden attack by another faction. Blame the local bastard.
Session 80: Find out everything you've thought about what happened in session one was wrong, and thus you now have to recontextualise everything that has happened based on the realization you made a blind assumption and never questioned it, and started a war over it.
I remember one session that went something like this, after I bowed out of it mid way due to being exceptionally busy with work, and also just... too much idiocy.
After the group had gone galavanting around, causing multiple mass casualty / ecoterrorism events by either completely missing or disregarding all the context clues dropped all over the place by the DM urging caution, suggesting things might be more complex than the party assumes they are...
... after a while, the grouo is encountering refugee wagon trains due to how they tackled major dungeon 2, got to big town 3 and it was more or less in a state of civil uprising due to a famine... all this shit caused by the group murder hoboing too hard...
The DM sets the group off on the next NPC driven adventure to stop a 'mad warlock', with a semi-plausible reason from the quest giver who has been stringing them along... but evil quest giver also asks them to retrieve a certain cache of magical texts from this warlock.
The group obliterates the warlock, mid summoning spell, summoning spell goes haywire, basically causes Oblivion hellmouth portals to start popping up, in an expanding radius.
The group tries to get the cache back to evil quest giver but oops, he's not where he said he would be, whole area is ravaged by demons.
... Then one of the group decides they have the requisite skills to be able to themselves read the cache of magical scrolls, written in an ancient, esoteric language, which must be read aloud to work properly... and that this is their only shot now at saving the world.
So this idiot more or less tries to read one of the Elder Scrolls... he chose, and rolled, poorly...
He causes himself to go blind, and insane, basically now experiences all of time simultaneously like Dr. Manhattan... now can only speak in the arcane tongue... which he does not know how to do properly, so now spacetime time is just warping and snapping and breaking around him wherever he is, so the rest of the party is soon turned inside out, blasted lightyears away or millenia back in time, and the world is obliterated.
... Bad murder hobos. BAD.
Some of the stories that come from stupid players murder-hobo-ing through a well thought out sandbox are amazing from the outside.
I've been through a good number of various TTRPG campaigns that lasted 3, or 6 months or more.
I have since learned a good deal of early warning signs of when to bail out fairly early, lol.
Except when the party is too stupid for morals and instead decided to end the world instead of compromising 5min with someone they assumed to be the BBEG just because she could talk to dragons and they had been attacked by a dragon once. Despite knowing that this woman was holding shut a literal portal to hell that Tiamat was ready to use. Ffs
Chaotic stupid alignment has some important weaknesses.
... Its hard to RP a character with a higher INT stat than the actual player has.
God allowed those kittens to need saving; a change in management seems pretty justified.
Excellent, it's always nice to see a plotline come to fruition
Except in Expedition 33, where your goal always is to kill god for being a bitch.

Except of course things turn out differently.

Moderator Guidelines
Moderator Guidelines
- Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
- Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
- When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
- Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
- Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
- Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
- Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
- Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
- Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
- Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
- Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
- Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
- First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
- Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
- No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
- Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
- Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.
