Voyager should be on there.

[-] tacosanonymous@lemm.ee 51 points 3 days ago

That’s what I use but it’s just one of the several way to access Lemmy which is the first app shown.

[-] fmstrat@lemmy.nowsci.com 20 points 3 days ago

Nope. Preference should not be made.

[-] Serinus@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

Maybe. But it's probably more important to start with Lemmy than which app to use.

[-] Zoot@reddthat.com 2 points 3 days ago

Boost is best. Only thing that doesn't work great is spoiler markdown, otherwise it's great

She has been a good evangelist for the fediverse, IMO, based on my reading of her posts on Mastodon the last couple months.

[-] remer@lemmy.world 38 points 3 days ago

What’s the most “mainstream” peertube instance? All I’ve seen is niche gaming stuff. Is there an instance that is more of a youtube replacement?

[-] fxomt@lemm.ee 34 points 3 days ago

tilvids probably. For the most mainstream general instance? Probably none. But freediverse, spectra and WTF are probably the best for it (imho ofc)

[-] supermurs@kbin.earth 14 points 3 days ago

Thanks mate! I haven't quite figured out how to use PeerTube yet, but I was able to join Freediverse now.

[-] fxomt@lemm.ee 7 points 3 days ago

no problem :) enjoy it, youll have access to most content with that instance!

[-] SolarPunker@slrpnk.net 3 points 3 days ago

Peertube.wtf is back!

[-] Psythik@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

Really? I just installed it and all I see is news in French. When I try to add more "platforms", it tells me that I need to choose a platform first, but doesn't give me any options. It's like it just expects me to figure that out on my own. Very unintitive.

[-] originalucifer@moist.catsweat.com 23 points 3 days ago

loops doesnt federate. why is it there?

no mbin (interstellar)?

[-] Ulrich@feddit.org 27 points 3 days ago

Because it's brand new and will eventually federate. The developer is deep in the fediverse so 100% it will

[-] kat@orbi.camp 14 points 3 days ago

But right now it doesn't....

[-] Ulrich@feddit.org 8 points 3 days ago

It's really not a technicality to get worked up about.

[-] kat@orbi.camp 8 points 3 days ago

I disagree. Anybody that joins Loops right now is forced to the one instance. That's not federation. That's not an issue for you. Which is valid. But you don't get to police those who don't share your view.

[-] Ulrich@feddit.org 4 points 3 days ago

Nobody is "policing" anyone, I just don't think it's a valid argument.

My understanding is that it will when it’s more strange and that the dev did the same thing with Pixelfed.

[-] originalucifer@moist.catsweat.com 22 points 3 days ago

im a big fan of not marketing your product until it can do the things you intend. theyve been spamming loops everywhere for over 6 months.

[-] CMLVI@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

It's also very featureless. Basically videos, comments, likes. I'm on it, and I've opened it maybe 6x in 2 weeks? I also think it's just an open feed; all the videos posted in chronological order (but I could be wrong here). Idk if this goes against the Fediverse creed to have an algorithm-fed feed, but I think part of the nature of these short form, endless-scrolling apps is finding vids about your interests from new places.

[-] ButtDrugs@lemm.ee 11 points 3 days ago

I think we should ultimately support algorithm feeds, but they should be free and open algorithms that can be peer reviewed, and also maybe give the users some control over which algorithm is applied and how. The problem with current social algorithms is they operate in the dark and are manipulative, not that they provide relevant content to users.

Well Microsoft has been doing it for 30 years.

lemmy.world app when?

Edit: I was making a joke, not actually asking lol. Thanks to all that answered tho :)

[-] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 18 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

If you zoom in on the image, you can see a faint gray square inside of the Lemmy app icon. That means it’s a progressive web app (PWA) on iPhone.

Open the webpage in Safari > tap share > tap add to Home Screen

[-] fxomt@lemm.ee 7 points 3 days ago

I didn't know that, thanks. I still think it's a little weird over just using something with the standard Lemmy icon, but it's a great image eitherway (lacking apps though)

[-] Cris_Color@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

Does the default lemmy web interface support use as a progressive web app?

[-] BarbecueCowboy@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

I think one of the various interface options does, but you can just use one of the multitude of third party apps available as well.

Am I the only one who is bothered by this pic. It looks so fake and photoshopped.

Maybe it’s because my phone has weird contrast settings for accessibility.

Obviously I think whoever made this pic has great intentions and it’ll definitely be good enough for an article banner or something which is what it’s most likely to be used for.

[-] Slax@sh.itjust.works 10 points 3 days ago

Here is Elena's message on mastodon about it: https://mastodon.social/@_elena/113899740641675793 I guess you can always provide some feedback!

[-] FundMECFSResearch 11 points 3 days ago

Nah I’m not gonna dunk on her effort. I’m glad she made it. Don’t wanna be a downer to her.

But it just looks off to me.

[-] zalgotext@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 days ago

If you have constructive feedback, it seems like the photographer is open to it. It's not dunking on anyone to say "hey great work and cool idea, just so you know the image looks a little "off" on my screen, possibly due to my accessibility settings, which are blah blah blah... hope this helps, thanks for the great work!"

[-] FellowEnt@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 days ago

Yeah it's a bad composite, not just you.

Peertube, a voyeurism site for vids of people peering in through window curtains? :P

[-] Klear@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

Nah, it's a torrent client.

[-] wise_pancake@lemmy.ca 9 points 3 days ago

Gotta collect them allll… FEDIVERSE!

[-] chalupapocalypse@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

What is loops? Not seeing it on the play store

[-] fxomt@lemm.ee 23 points 3 days ago

A federated tiktok alternative by the same guy who made Pixelfed. You can find the app on testflight.

It's not actually federated yet, not even open source. It's promising but Dan gets himself into a lot of controversy :/

It doesn't even have a web ui yet, but it's pretty much finished (atleast from dans mastodon teasers). We only have to wait a couple of weeks or a month for it (i estimate at least)

Don't get my negative comment wrong tho, i'm still excited for it, just disappointed so far from dan's handling of it.

Here's the website: https://loops.video/
