If you're not already connected to local organizing efforts where you are, start looking for ways to change that:

  • Look up if there are any mutual aid hubs around you
  • go to protests and ask around
  • try to get involved with food not bombs and see if you can get linked in with more efforts
  • If ICE/CBP were sent to your state, you might ask folks who organizes ICE watch in your area. Here in central NC thats a workers rights group called Siembra

Any efforts to protect our futures and our neighbors will happen through local organizing with people in YOUR community, where YOU are at. If you want a democracy, this chapter of history seems to demand that we work for it; start figuring out how to get connected.

If you have advice or encouragement for folks, please feel free to share it ❤️

I just wanna stop for a moment and say I really appreciate all the hard work you're doing.

Its really not the easiest to find news stories that are sincerely really good news, and not just a slight letup of something awful.

Your posts make my timeline a much nicer place and I really appreciate it ❤️

From left to right: Bucket, Poki, Soup, Marble, Bubbles, and Goopy :)

I'm playing the following following platinum rom hack, so its been fun having my Pokémon follow me around.

Just beat the elite four so now I'm probably wrapping up my time with the game, and will eventually move on to gen 5 (I'm playing through each gen moving through the regions, I've not really played any modern games so I'm looking forward to trying them :)

It was hard to get a good picture, sorry it's not that amazing of a photo 😅 thoughts on how to better photograph a smashburger are welcome if something comes to mind

Just some cheap buns
Two smashed pattes on each (w/salt and pepper)
American cheese
Sliced poblano
And ketchup & mayo

I used to really like doing fresh jalapeno, but now generally have to avoid spicy food for dumb reasons so poblano has been a nice substitute.

For the patties you just roll ground beef into a ball roughly the size of a golf ball, maybe a tad bigger if you want, get your cast iron super hot, and then place your patty ball on the cast iron, and smash it down with a suitable metal implement- I use a flat, non-slotted cookie scraper and use the butt of a silicone spatula to press down on the top of the spatula since it's hard to get good leverage on the cookie scraper without putting your hand too close to the sputtering hot pan

“Stephen Miller is destroying democracy,” “stop the kidnapping,” we [love] immigrants,” “hate has no home in Arlington,” “no white nationalism,” and “trans rights are human rights”

For anyone curious what kinds of things were written

Anyone know if they've actually open sourced everything yet? I haven't kept up with things and I know that was an issue for a while

I deleted and undeleted this post, if it is breaking the no politics rule I apologize and please remove

It is unclear to me what does or doesn't count, and whether or not the rule is enforced as there are other political posts. Sorry for any trouble.

I saw these and thought they'd be perfect for a comm along these lines if one existed on lemmy, and lo and behold, it does exist!

Was surprised no one bothered to post this give how big of a reaction this story got.

Wanted to post the update and correction cause that deserves to be seen just as much. This seems like a reasonable, thoughtful handling of the issue.

I still don't really wanna use Ubuntu though 😅

Christ, premium light is still fucking 8 dollars a month and you don't even get rid of ads. The greed is fucking astounding.

I'll stick to an adblocker, dickheads.

Here are some more specific examples to think about!

  • Compliment people's art and ask about their process

  • Teach people about something you're knowledgeable on

  • Give constructive criticism on peoples projects when it's welcome

  • Thank people for posting things you're glad you got to see, tell them you enjoyed it

  • Tell people you're glad they're here

  • Tell people you hope they have a good day

Thanks for taking the time to read my thoughts :) if you have thoughts of your own, I'd love to hear them!

The Australian researchers and doctors behind the operation announced on Wednesday that the implant had been an “unmitigated clinical success” after the man lived with the device for more than 100 days before receiving a donor heart transplant in early March.

Just in case anyone else also found the title ambiguous regarding whether "100 days" meant he died 😅

I've always had a lot of respect for Penn's sincere "individual freedoms as long as they don't infringe on the individual freedoms of others" brand of libertarinism that advocated still caring about other people, and isn't about just deferring to corporations

I'm not surprised he no longer identifies with libertarianism, given what it's increasingly come to mean. I may not look at the world exactly the same as him or always agree with him but people with sincere principles always have my respect.

The way he and Teller made a show to basically showcase other magicians is super cool. If you look up Penn & Teller: Fool Us on YouTube you'll see tons of magicians publishing their segments on the show on their personal channels, which must mean Penn and Teller negotiated that performers would have rights to their own performances and can publish them themselves.

Thats fucking cool. (Also a great show, it makes a great YouTube binge!)

I'm still frustrated that everything people sell is just on Facebook marketplace now. No one uses stuff like Craigslist anymore, and it's super frustrating cause I periodically wanna get something used but really hate that everything is just listed on facebook

As a US citizen, paying for veterans healthcare and early education programs advance my interests a whole fucking lot more than paying this jackass.

Stupid piece of shit, you don't speak for us.

Did something happen with Godot that caused the lost sponsors....?

Edit: this thread has some discussion if you're out of the loop like me

https://www.reddit.com/r/gamedev/comments/1ft26by/what_is_going_on_with_the_wogot_engine/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Kinda sounds like Godot did pretty much nothing wrong and it's just a bunch of internet drama? Hard to tell honestly

She's not wrong that most foreign terrorist threats the US faces were radicalized by our own political and military involvement in other regions

[-] Cris_Color@lemmy.world 137 points 2 years ago

I mean that broadly seems like a good thing. Execution is important, but on paper this seems like the kind of forward thinking policy we need
