My sister was born first so I think she just took all of the attraction genes in the dressing room and left me with crumbs.

[-] garbagebagel@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Lmao I meant the genes that determine how much attraction you feel towards people (she is pan and I'm ace), but she probably took most of the attractiveness ones too.

Haha either way, I was just goofin'.

My sexual preference is Bassist, Bassist, Bassist.

[-] Doodleschmit@lemmy.world 29 points 2 days ago

Bassist here. This is already more attention than usual.

Impossible to know what percentage more since can't divide by 0 ;)

So three bassists?

I propose to you one of my fav album, SMV, for Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller & Victor Wooten :

I think my favs are Thunder, Pendulum and Los tres hermanos.

Ooh, this was great! Thanks for the rec.

As an ex-drummer, I enjoyed how stylishly understated the drums were. I used to enjoy leaning into a mock rivalry with bassists, the humour of which was partly anchored in the deep solidarity of being rhythm-section

[-] Funkytom467@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

My pleasure.

I'm a amateur bassist, so in the mock rivalry I'd say this is showing how much of the rhythm-section bassists can fill ^^

And we can also do some dope harmony. I love the jokes about how bassist are translators between drummers and guitarists.

Victor Wooten has lessons on YouTube where he does emphasize that a lot.

oh shit I am a little ashamed I didn't know this existed but I am way more happy that I have this to treasure for the rest of my life

[-] Funkytom467@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Yeah, It's a one time thing they did so it went under the radar of lots of people. Also why I shared it, glad I made you happy <3

As an AroAce person, very relatable :3

This reminded me of the "All or Nothing" drama from Tumblr, holy shit. IYKYK

[-] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 14 points 2 days ago

My search-fu is failing me, mainly because there's a film and TV show with that name dominating results.

Can I get a TL;DR?

Does anyone like 1-hour video essays, though? (I mean appreciate it vs nothing, but as a blanket statement...)

The longer the better. All videos should have a minimum length of 1 hour.

[-] ICastFist@programming.dev 4 points 1 day ago

I can watch two of those per workday, on my bus commute to/from work. Usually end up watching history documentaries instead (currently going through a 6 hours one detailing the Franco-Prussian war of 1870, gonna be an interesting week)

[-] Breadhax0r@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago

I watched a 4 hour essay about the star wars Disney hotel...also I think there was a 3 hour one about how awful star trek Picard was.

[-] rodneylives@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Both were great, but both also took me a week to get through, a piece at a time.

[-] frayedpickles@lemmy.cafe 6 points 2 days ago

The Disney hotel one was with that weird chick and she's great. 10/10 would blow away my time on that again. However, YouTube is filled with literal garbage.

[-] bcgm3@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

that weird chick and she's great.

Jenny Nicholson, for anyone interested. There's an equally long one about a failed permanent Renaissance Faire that's a real trip, too. Almost all of them are a fun diversion, really.

[-] frayedpickles@lemmy.cafe 2 points 1 day ago

Yeah she's hilarious. Weird isn't a bad thing, but...I mean just check out her channel. Plush spider episode? 🫥

[-] bcgm3@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Also an unexpectedly fun trip. "Weird and great" is pretty accurate for the channel!

[-] Mac@mander.xyz 3 points 2 days ago

Yes. I watch essays even longer that that.

[-] VeganCheesecake 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

For me - not necessarily for concentrated viewing, but I can deal better with some boring tasks when I have something in the background that keeps my brain occupied, be it a podcast, a long video essay, or whatever else.

[-] frayedpickles@lemmy.cafe 1 points 2 days ago

Agreed on background

[-] TRBoom@lemm.ee 10 points 2 days ago

Took a quick look and it appears a group of people wanted to shoot a live action series with similar trappings as the OP picture. They did a kickstarter for 5k and were unable to deliver on that budget.

This is from 30 seconds of research, so grain of salt and all that.
