Taiga's a Japanese name, though uncommon

What are you doing steppe nomad?

[-] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 week ago

Using flat terrain to facilitate fast movement and colonization. I sure hope no one invents a way to kill me while I descend on your village

[-] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 week ago

[-] SacredHeartAttack@lemmy.world 40 points 1 week ago

[-] Hupf@feddit.org 5 points 1 week ago
[-] SacredHeartAttack@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

No, lol. My cousin’s real-life 5 yr old son.

[-] Artyom@lemm.ee 2 points 1 week ago

Are they a bastard born between King's Landing and The Twins?

[-] will_a113@lemmy.ml 33 points 1 week ago

Xeric Shrubland is definitely a LOTR character.

[-] salvaria 24 points 1 week ago

Xeric as a name actually sounds kinda badass

[-] Skua@kbin.earth 20 points 1 week ago

If I ever see it as a name I'm just going to assume it's someone who was named Eric by his parents and had it changed to be edgier when he was fourteen

[-] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 week ago

looks like a modernized version of an old english name, something like "Serric"

lo Serric, i knew him well

[-] ieatpwns@lemmy.world 28 points 1 week ago

Taiga is a nice name too

[-] OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca 21 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

What about For(r)est Gump?

[-] psmgx@lemmy.world 18 points 1 week ago

Marsha Marsha Marsha

[-] SolarMonkey@slrpnk.net 16 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Tangent but.. Wow it didn’t even occur to me that paludariums were so named because that’s the type of ecosystem they are mimicking, rather than some guy named Paul invented a cool-style terrarium/aquarium merger.. (example below)

TIL!

[-] Hello_there@fedia.io 16 points 1 week ago

Does Forest not count? Gump is sad.

[-] mrmacduggan@lemmy.ml 16 points 1 week ago

Theorycrafting this - Tundra would be a nice name. So would Mesa, Fen, and Delta.

[-] sangriaferret@sh.itjust.works 16 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Delta you say?

[-] shai_hulud@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago

I'm going to change my name to Peat Bog

[-] Mothra@mander.xyz 14 points 1 week ago

In Spanish, Selva (rainforest) is a somewhat common girl's name

[-] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 14 points 1 week ago

If I have a daughter, I'll name her Swamp Thing.

[-] CodingCarpenter@lemm.ee 7 points 1 week ago

Sounds like a life destined for venirial disease

[-] dohpaz42@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Takes “draining the swamp” to a whole new (medical) level.

[-] Mycatiskai@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 week ago

Only if they marry Bobby Itch or Jim Wrought.

[-] Klear@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Not Man-Thing?

[-] Maggoty@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago

Taiga became popular in 2022. Definitely looking forward to seeing that one around. So many Ice Queen jokes.

[-] Hupf@feddit.org 12 points 1 week ago
[-] Freefall@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

Xeric Shrubland is going to Google his name in 16 years and dedicate his life to hunting you down.

[-] wax@feddit.nu 11 points 1 week ago
[-] Evil_Shrubbery@lemm.ee 11 points 1 week ago

Not biomes but ...

Cesspool is an acceptable nickname tho.

South wetlands is reserved only for the exceptionally hot individuals.

[-] Venator@lemmy.nz 7 points 1 week ago

Cesspool is an acceptable nickname

Is it though?

[-] nailbar@sopuli.xyz 8 points 1 week ago

Accepted by half of the two individuals involved

[-] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 week ago

only if they're a single-prop airplane enthusiast

[-] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 week ago
[-] bizarroland@fedia.io 9 points 1 week ago

Xeric sounds kind of like a cool name to give a kid if you want that kid to suffer for their entire life.

But then again they could rise above it and become a cool person, maybe not quite on the level of Streetlamp leMoose but close.

[-] Votes@lemm.ee 6 points 1 week ago

They'd be pretty popular with the Runescape crowd, for whatever that's worth.

[-] Voyajer@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

I bet you could find someone named chaparral.

Also I'm sure there's a scrub joke to be had here.

[-] Mycatiskai@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 week ago

Ephemeral Pond IIII. I am named after my great grandfather.

[-] HarbingerOfTomb@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

I wanted to name a daughter Tundra.

[-] Ma10gan@slrpnk.net 5 points 1 week ago

My beautiful sons Lupine Meadow and Coastal Sage Scrub.

[-] OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 week ago
[-] SplashJackson@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 week ago
[-] StThicket@reddthat.com 3 points 1 week ago

My son's class have girls with names like Savannah, Mali and Marina. I find it way too funny.

[-] burgersc12@mander.xyz 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Naming my kid Tundra or Elfin now, thanks!
