Taiga's a Japanese name, though uncommon

What are you doing steppe nomad?

[-] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 9 points 5 days ago

Using flat terrain to facilitate fast movement and colonization. I sure hope no one invents a way to kill me while I descend on your village

[-] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 4 days ago

oooh if i put this gray powder mixture into a tube and add fire it goes boom! how fun!

[-] HarbingerOfTomb@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago

I wanted to name a daughter Tundra.

[-] SacredHeartAttack@lemmy.world 40 points 6 days ago

I know a kid named River 🤷🏻‍♂️

[-] Hupf@feddit.org 5 points 5 days ago
[-] SacredHeartAttack@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

No, lol. My cousin’s real-life 5 yr old son.

[-] Artyom@lemm.ee 2 points 5 days ago

Are they a bastard born between King's Landing and The Twins?

[-] will_a113@lemmy.ml 33 points 6 days ago

Xeric Shrubland is definitely a LOTR character.

[-] salvaria 24 points 6 days ago

Xeric as a name actually sounds kinda badass

[-] Skua@kbin.earth 19 points 6 days ago

If I ever see it as a name I'm just going to assume it's someone who was named Eric by his parents and had it changed to be edgier when he was fourteen

[-] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 4 days ago

looks like a modernized version of an old english name, something like "Serric"

lo Serric, i knew him well

[-] ieatpwns@lemmy.world 28 points 6 days ago

Taiga is a nice name too

[-] psmgx@lemmy.world 17 points 5 days ago

Marsha Marsha Marsha

[-] StThicket@reddthat.com 3 points 4 days ago

My son's class have girls with names like Savannah, Mali and Marina. I find it way too funny.

[-] Maggoty@lemmy.world 12 points 5 days ago

Taiga became popular in 2022. Definitely looking forward to seeing that one around. So many Ice Queen jokes.

[-] OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca 21 points 6 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

What about For(r)est Gump?

[-] SolarMonkey@slrpnk.net 16 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Tangent but.. Wow it didn’t even occur to me that paludariums were so named because that’s the type of ecosystem they are mimicking, rather than some guy named Paul invented a cool-style terrarium/aquarium merger.. (example below)

TIL!

[-] Mothra@mander.xyz 14 points 5 days ago

In Spanish, Selva (rainforest) is a somewhat common girl's name

[-] Hello_there@fedia.io 16 points 5 days ago

Does Forest not count? Gump is sad.

[-] mrmacduggan@lemmy.ml 16 points 6 days ago

Theorycrafting this - Tundra would be a nice name. So would Mesa, Fen, and Delta.

[-] sangriaferret@sh.itjust.works 16 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Delta you say?

[-] shai_hulud@lemmy.world 15 points 6 days ago

I'm going to change my name to Peat Bog

[-] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 14 points 6 days ago

If I have a daughter, I'll name her Swamp Thing.

[-] CodingCarpenter@lemm.ee 7 points 6 days ago

Sounds like a life destined for venirial disease

[-] dohpaz42@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago

Takes “draining the swamp” to a whole new (medical) level.

[-] Mycatiskai@lemmy.ca 4 points 5 days ago

Only if they marry Bobby Itch or Jim Wrought.

[-] Klear@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

Not Man-Thing?

[-] Evil_Shrubbery@lemm.ee 11 points 5 days ago

Not biomes but ...

Cesspool is an acceptable nickname tho.

South wetlands is reserved only for the exceptionally hot individuals.

[-] Venator@lemmy.nz 7 points 5 days ago

Cesspool is an acceptable nickname

Is it though?

[-] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 4 days ago

only if they're a single-prop airplane enthusiast

[-] nailbar@sopuli.xyz 8 points 5 days ago

Accepted by half of the two individuals involved

[-] wax@feddit.nu 11 points 5 days ago
[-] Hupf@feddit.org 12 points 5 days ago
[-] Freefall@lemmy.world 11 points 5 days ago

Xeric Shrubland is going to Google his name in 16 years and dedicate his life to hunting you down.

[-] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 10 points 5 days ago
[-] bizarroland@fedia.io 9 points 6 days ago

Xeric sounds kind of like a cool name to give a kid if you want that kid to suffer for their entire life.

But then again they could rise above it and become a cool person, maybe not quite on the level of Streetlamp leMoose but close.

[-] Votes@lemm.ee 6 points 6 days ago

They'd be pretty popular with the Runescape crowd, for whatever that's worth.

[-] Voyajer@lemmy.world 7 points 6 days ago

I bet you could find someone named chaparral.

Also I'm sure there's a scrub joke to be had here.

[-] Mycatiskai@lemmy.ca 6 points 6 days ago

Ephemeral Pond IIII. I am named after my great grandfather.

[-] Ma10gan@slrpnk.net 5 points 5 days ago

My beautiful sons Lupine Meadow and Coastal Sage Scrub.
