Summary

A 24-year-old man, Daniel Schmidt, was arrested after allegedly disrupting a voting line and assaulting an election judge in Orland Park, Illinois.

Schmidt reportedly attempted to skip the line, ignored repeated instructions to wait, and punched an election judge who tried to stop him, knocking off their glasses.

Other patrons restrained him until police arrived, at which point Schmidt resisted arrest. He faces multiple charges, including aggravated battery against a person over 60 and resisting arrest.

It's crazy, it's always the party you'd most expect.

The one prone to violence and has control issues, then wonders why no one likes them except dumb, or sociopathic people, so they make up false equivalencies and conspiracies to justify their own sad existence? Hopefully the voters wake up and do a purge. Especially in the midterms.

"Libertarians" who always seem to vote Republican

[-] akilou@sh.itjust.works 50 points 2 days ago

That of law and order, supposedly

[-] Leate_Wonceslace@lemmy.dbzer0.com 23 points 2 days ago

Gotta keep the pigs employed somehow.

[-] Blackmist@feddit.uk 13 points 2 days ago

Man, so much violence from both sides... It's hard to say.

[-] cobn@lemmy.dbzer0.com 121 points 2 days ago

That's one way to stop a trump vote, ask them to follow the rules and be curtious to others till they punch you in the face and get ejected from the voting location.

We need more people that can take a punchat voting locations. We only have so many old people.

[-] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

They think rules only apply to those below them.

[-] Nougat@fedia.io 144 points 2 days ago

I hate Illinois Nazis.

[-] rustyfish@lemmy.world 118 points 2 days ago

Is this the second elderly who got punched in the face this election by a magat? I think it's the second elderly punched in the face by a magat.

❤️Family values❤️

[-] just_another_person@lemmy.world 63 points 2 days ago

It's like the fifth or sixth. All Trump psychos doing the attacking, of course.

[-] miseducator@lemmy.world 32 points 2 days ago
[-] frunch@lemmy.world 20 points 2 days ago

The day is young, so many elderly out there for a young MAGA to assault!

[-] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 days ago

I really hope I’m wrong, but I fully expect at least one shooting incident at a polling place today. I’ve seen multiple posts by redcaps claiming they plan to go armed, and they seem to be spoiling for a confrontation. I really hope everyone can stay safe.

[-] Beacon@fedia.io 7 points 2 days ago

Nowhere in the article does it say anything to suggest who he was voting for. In a population of 300 million there are gonna be some number of crazies in every demographic

EDIT

y'all are loopy. I'm 100% team Harris, i even phonebanked for her - did you? All i said is that there's nothing in the article about whether he's a trumper or not, and there are some number of insane non-trumpers out there. If you think literally all people who aren't voting for trump are sane, then you're the one who's insane. It doesn't matter whether this particular person turns out to be trumper or not, the point is we shouldn't jump to conclusions or else we'll eventually wind up with egg on our face

[-] Moops@lemmy.world 41 points 2 days ago

Political violence is pretty party-specific.

[-] Bertuccio@lemmy.world 23 points 2 days ago

This is a good example of keeping your mind so open your brain falls out.

No. The article doesn't explicitly say what party he planned to vote for. That's right.

Almost all instances of election violence have been committed by the same party - even the attempted assassinations. I'm sure there could be examples of violence from the other party but I'm genuinely struggling to think of any.

So if a reasonable person hears someone in an election line was violent they're not going to think "well there are crazies on both sides, so yaneverknow."

[-] Voyajer@lemmy.world 27 points 2 days ago

He follows Trump's Facebook page at the least

[-] Hominine@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago

Magats PUNCHING elderly people is JOE BIDENS fault because Joe Biden NEVER told Republicans NOT to Punch Elderly People! Family Values!

[-] ripcord@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

If Trump claimed it was Joe's fault because he punches elderly people in the face every day, 30+% of the country wouldn't just believe it without question but would start claiming it immediately.

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 39 points 2 days ago

Let me guess who he was planning on voting for.

[-] shinratdr@lemmy.ca 23 points 2 days ago

FUCK YOU OLD MAN I NEED TO PROTECT WOMENS HEALTH!

[-] Treczoks@lemmy.world 40 points 2 days ago

Let me guess: registered as Republican, yes?

[-] Phoenicianpirate@lemm.ee 12 points 2 days ago
[-] tee9000@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

Breaking news: we have confirmed he was republican based on a misunderstanding in Lemmy comments.

[-] HawlSera@lemm.ee 27 points 2 days ago

Hopefully he did this before he voted

[-] Sinthesis@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago

The funny thing is agg. battery is a felony in Illinois which means he would lose his right to vote.

[-] Stern@lemmy.world 30 points 2 days ago

Sounds like he won't have to worry about voting for a long time, since I'm guessing theres at least one felony somewhere in those charges.

[-] stringere@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

24-year-old Daniel Schmidt

tch. Danny, Danny, Danny. You done fucked up Danny boy.

Schmidt, huh? Good German name innit. Is that a tattoo on your neck there ol Danster? Hey - I hear in prison you can meet new people!

Y'see Danny - what we have here is something we call an egregious crime. Can you say egregious? . . . very close! Anyway, you've got a room full of people who saw you act like a total MAGAt and punch a poll worker. They don't like that Danny. They're gonna testify, Danny. You're fucked on this one Danny.

But hey. Your demented rapist sociopath god will surely pardon you right? Good thing you didn't make the national news with a big ol' picture of your stupid ass face for - y'know - future gangs or whatever it is you may have wanted to do with your life or whatever.

On the other hand - it's a hell of an origin story for someone who never shows up in social media or the news again and spends their life helping others because they fucked up so bad. There's some audacious hope!

[-] Gammelfisch@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago

Another trump turd who will not vote.

[-] M600@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago

Now they will claim the election is rigged because someone was prevented from entering the voting area.

[-] Buffalox@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

Very smart, he sure showed them. 🤣

[-] eran_morad@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago
[-] pinkystew@reddthat.com 3 points 2 days ago

[-] prof_wafflez@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago
