No worries, I have only been on Lemmy for a few days but I completely understand where you are coming from. I thought this would be a better platform than reddit, politically, but in some ways it's worse because it's a smaller community and they are mostly liberals whose only real political concerns have to do with tech/privacy issues.
Mods deleted a "down with cis" comment I made due to it being hate speech ... I've been accused of making second accounts and being a propagandist multiple times just in a few days. The lack of political awareness would be appalling had I been born yesterday. It's honestly quite depressing and I think I'm going to move back to tiktok as my primary social media platform, it is the most leftist space I have seen. Unfortunately I'm not sure what will happen after the ban takes hold, or after a U.S. owned company takes control.
Yeah it's pretty much a cross section of reddit here. This instance isn't quite as bad as .world, which will remove comments even pointing out that Biden is supporting genocide, but if you check communities like 196 right now, they're filled with enlightened centrists and pro-capitalist neolibs.
FYI the midwest.social admin (seahorse) is good, so you could try that instance if you're so inspired. It's focused on welcoming leftists from the midwestern US, but welcomes anyone.
I use tik tok too, but tumblr is my main thing, even though the tumblr CEOs are transphobic asshats. The users make up for it though. I just try to never contribute monetarily to the site itself.
And yeah I got my ass banned from gaming@lemmy.world once for saying mean things about Hogwarts Legacy.
I'll check out Midwest.social, thanks!! Awesome that you are posting so much on this community though, it is a breath of fresh air.
Thank you for saying so. I'm so happy we had this conversation
