I was in VRChat and we were talking about autism and I don't remember how exactly it happened but I ended up calling my dad in VR and asking him if the reason I got taken for "physical therapy" at school for several years after I learned to write (originally it was because I'm left handed but didn't have enough muscles and motor control to write well) and my dad confirmed that it was to help me develop and I never realized.
They had an inside swing, a big ol weighted blanket, a bean bag, putty of different thicknesses to strengthen hand muscles, fidget toys, and the "teacher" had a cool little glass sphere on her desk that had live coral in it. She said there used to be a shrimp but it died. tbh even as an adult I'd love to go back there and just mess around with all the different toys. I still have one she gave me at the end of the school year.

The person I was talking to in VRChat thought it was so funny I never noticed that he friended me and we became good friends for a while. I even visited him to go to formula drift together (drifting cars but a ranked competition)

"That depends. Is the existence of this form going to be known to my family? If so, yep, totally safe."

  • my partner, not me

yeah i remember they asked something like that when i was in school. i knew that if i told them the truth, my mother would abuse me when i get home.

(because for some incomprehensible reason, whenever there's any problem, the mother is the first who gets to know about it. doesn't matter whether i explicitely tell them not to tell my mother.)

I distinctly remember being like 12 and intentionally lying on the long general mental health screening form at the two questions that were screening for gender dysphoria. I couldn't put into words why it mattered that I was lying about it, but I just had a strong suspicion it wouldn't go well if I told the truth because my parents might find out. I consider that decision to be yet another instance of me using my intelligence to do something dumb.

Thankfully I never thought to tell the psychologists about how my parents' fighting made me feel, because oh boy would that not have gone well

Same, except it was do you feel safe at school. It was around age 13 or so and by that point I had solidly learnt that telling anyone just adds punishment to the bruises.

Ugh yeah. We had a bunch of cops come do an assembly at my junior school about 'violence at home' and then they spent playtime in one of the classrooms where students could come ask for help and whatnot.

I got all the way into the room in front of them before I chickened out at the thought of the never ending repercussions I was going to face if I brought cops to the house. I just mumbled some bullshit about 'wrong room' and left.

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.
