Have a sneer percolating in your system but not enough time/energy to make a whole post about it? Go forth and be mid - welcome to the Stubsack, your first port of call for learning fresh Awful you’ll near-instantly regret.
Any awful.systems sub may be subsneered in this subthread, techtakes or no.
If your sneer seems higher quality than you thought, feel free to cut’n’paste it into its own post — there’s no quota for posting and the bar really isn’t that high.
The post Xitter web has spawned so many “esoteric” right wing freaks, but there’s no appropriate sneer-space for them. I’m talking redscare-ish, reality challenged “culture critics” who write about everything but understand nothing. I’m talking about reply-guys who make the same 6 tweets about the same 3 subjects. They’re inescapable at this point, yet I don’t see them mocked (as much as they should be)
Like, there was one dude a while back who insisted that women couldn’t be surgeons because they didn’t believe in the moon or in stars? I think each and every one of these guys is uniquely fucked up and if I can’t escape them, I would love to sneer at them.
(Credit and/or blame to David Gerard. Nearly forgot to put this up, whoops)

His response is the Live Laugh Love of 2015 Silicon Valley platitudes:
Of course, building data centers that use untold amounts of rare earth metals, electricity, and water while spewing out tons of pollution and scraping every last bit of human content in order to remove people from their jobs by doing them badly is what drives society forward. Profits fail if oligarchs don't try. Actually, the AI companies don't even need profits.
What a twat. "It's much harder to bullshit people than to be rigorous and skeptical guys. Not only is everything fine, I'm actually a better person than ALL my critics"
You know, basically all of the bullshit we see from the silicon valley set makes a lot more sense if they're legitimately unable to recognize a difference between society as a whole doing well and their particular project or vision succeeding. Like, it also fits with their assumption that the world is falling apart because people are being mean to them online.
The Silicon Valley set's also shown a complete inability to tell good work from slop, as their relentless glazing of AI slop has demonstrated, so I can easily believe that.
i still can't find the shift key on my keyboard.* i think it may just be a greybeard myth. no big deal, posting messages like this really bolsters my public image by making me seem relaxed and approachable.
*Unless I am publicly accused of fraud, trade secret theft, mass copyright infringement, etc. in which case my PR team tells me I need to temporarily drop the act.
why you little
"Everything's going great actually. We're doing really important work that's really hard. I'm a really happy, optimistic guy and I'm very trustworthy. Disregard the smog coming from that data centre over there. Also disregard all those angry looking bankers staring at me."
