Now that you pointed it out, this annoys me more than people who put the currency sign after the amount.
Welcome to Europa were we do exactly that, as the placement of the currency symbol is a locale thing not a universal.
Yeah I know, it drives me crazy.
It's also annoying when Europeans swap the comma and decimal on currency amounts too, especially given that you don't do that when writing sentences. Few things more infuriating than seeing an amount written out like 2.999,95€! Where are your manners!?

I can't help that I was born here. FWIW I'm not a blind patriot, I just have autism.
I see, that's understandable. We all have pet-peeves. Mine is the date format in the US that has spread month-day-year. Most of Europe is day-month-year and it's very confusing when people start adopting US formats because they watch so much stuff from the US.
IMO any date standard other than ISO 8601 is wrong too. Year-Month-Date makes the most sense from a chronological standpoint. Also makes sorting files by date easier.
That used to be what letters were expected to have in Germany but because nobody actually stuck to that law they made it optional, instead also allowing the much more common dd.mm.yyyy which is almost as acceptable in my opinion.
It's only useful for storing data, in the real world you want to know the day and sometimes the month, is very rae to want to know the year
Something tells me that ISO was created to make programming easier. Time/date stuff on computers are a menace in general.
RFC3339 is also acceptable
It's not just Americans that use the comma as a spacer and a period for a decimal

According to ISO 80000-1, the decimal separator can either be a period or a comma, and no preference is given to either. Many American software systems support both (including the software I work on). It's really quite normal and mundane.

Well like I said to the other person, it's not a "I think the US is superior" thing; very much the opposite. I simply have autism. (ADHD too but that's not relevant here.)

One of my favorite things about Lemmy is how many of us are in the autism/ADHD neurotribe, or at least have an understanding about it. We can read your response and be like, "Oh, okay. Yeah, I get where you're coming from" and roll along, without the need for senseless hostility.

To me putting it first feels funny. Euro 100, instead of 100 euros. While writing it you need to remember to put the symbol before writing the amount. Funny thing
I dont know why that annoys me. It does annoy me but it shouldn't because at least it has a logic to it.
